The reviews are in for one of the Nintendo Switch 2s earliest exclusives, and its getting middling scores across the board. This proves what a lot of fans said from the start: that it should have been a free pack-in game, rather than a paid release.

Im by no means a serial gambler (Im far too risk-averse and broke for that) but Im always drawn to it in videogames. Whether its spinning the wheel in GTA Onlines Diamond Resort to win a car, or trying to get my coins up after drafting a casino in Blue Prince, these kinds of mechanics and minigames always lure me in. A game that focuses solely on pulling the lever of a slot machine, though, sounds like it could get tedious. Cloverpit, on the surface, is just that, but it weaves in Balatro-esque roguelike elements and presents itself as a pretty gnarly, disturbing horror game. In the midst of abject chaos and censorship, back around the time when payment processors realized they could just shut down industries they didn't like, something slipped under the radar of most. It seemed possibly-related, but worked a bit differently; and without hard confirmation, nobody could really tell one way or the other.

Often, when players think of cozy games, they tend to think of indie titles like Stardew Valley and Undertale; but they also forget that there are AAA games that fit the coziness to a T.

Recently my partner inherited several early editions of the Dungeons and Dragons player handbook. Balancing games is important. It's no fun if one unit is overpowered, one character deals twice as much damage as another, or something is plain broken. That goes double for RTS games like Broken Arrow, which attempt to simulate army movements and intense warzones with equal parts efficiency and accuracy. However, Broken Arrow had a bit of a broken launch (nominative determinism at its finest there), receiving mixed reviews on Steam. Developer Steel Balalaika has been playing catch-up since.
