Ready or Not mod already lets players restore extreme material cut for consoles

Since Ready or Not developer Void Interactive announced it would be removing and adjusting some of the game's more extreme material on PC in order to launch on console, disappointed players have bombarded its Steam page with negative reviews. Almost immediately after the update dropped, one creator released a mod that aims to walk back most of the controversial changes.

Ready or Not's 'Uncensored or Not' mod chiefly restores instances of nudity and gore, going point by point through Void's list of changes. Evidently some players have taken Void's suggestion that mods could reintroduce the cut content to heart. As for the Ready or Not update in question, it also adds two new missions and revamps the game's difficulty modes. This brings the total Ready or Not missions count up to 26.

The controversy began when Void stated that some gore would be toned down and content related to in-game child characters would be revised as part of the game's console launch. As players review-bombed the game, the developer released another statement, clarifying exactly what had been removed or revised. It stated that it has seen "misconceptions and misinformation circulating around the scope of these changes." Void also added that it could not keep the content on PC without compromising crossplay with the console versions.

Now that the update is live, players on the game's subreddit continue to share examples of changes as they play through the new version. So far, most of the obvious differences include reductions in gore and the removal of depictions of child characters in the Valley of the Dolls mission.
