A whole cup of pure maple syrup (and yes, we mean the good stuff!) may seem like a lot for this recipe but it contributes both to the flavor and texture of these soft cookies. You'll want to make sure you use the good stuff, rather than maple-flavored table syrup, which is primarily made from corn syrup.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 cup salted butter, softened

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 tsp. baking soda

  • 1/8 tsp. salt

  • 1 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 recipe Maple Frosting (below)

Maple Frosting

  • 1/3 cup softened salted butter

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

  • 3 Tbsp. heavy cream

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • Pinch salt

  • 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a large bowl beat butter with a mixer on medium 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping bowl as needed. Beat in maple syrup, egg, and vanilla. Beat in flour.

  2. Drop dough by 1 1/2-Tbsp. portions 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets. Bake until tops are set, 9 to 11 minutes. Transfer cookies to a wire rack; cool completely.

  3. While the cookies cool, make the maple frosting. In a large bowl beat softened salted butter and pure maple syrup with a mixer on low until combined. Add heavy cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt; beat until combined. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until spreadable. Frost cooled cookies with maple frosting.
