Tortilla chips are best, but you can also use potato chips or crackers. Can I make this ahead of time? Yes, you can make it ahead of time and cook it before your guests arrive. Just remove it from the fridge about 10 minutes before baking. Is Texas Trash Dip spicy? Not usually. Mild green chiles and standard taco seasoning create plenty of flavor without making the dip overly spicy. If youd like more heat, use hot green chiles, spicy taco seasoning, diced jalapeos, or Pepper Jack cheese. Can I make this in the Slow Cooker instead? Yes. Since the ingredients are already fully cooked, the slow cooker works very well for this recipe.Mix all ingredients except the garnish and half of the cheese, then place everything into the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for about 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until heated through and melted. Add the remaining cheese during the last 20 to 30 minutes of cooking.
