Apple Pie Baked Beans
Apple Pie Baked Beans combine baked beans with apple pie filling and BBQ flavor for a fun side dish! Great for cookouts and family meals!A Unique and Surprisingly Delicious Side Dish!I know, I know. This pairing seems absolutely ridiculous. I get it. Two things that theoretically should NOT go together. I dont know how to fully explain it other than it works. The sweetness and warm flavors of the apple pie filling combined with the saltiness of the beans just works beautifully. I have done something similar with crushed pineapple and it was a huge hit! Frequently Asked Questions:Can I make these in the Crock Pot? Yes, this recipe can be made in the slow cooker. Cook the bacon and onion first, then combine everything in the slow cooker and cook on low for about 4-5 hours or until heated through. PLEASE NOTE: The sauce will not thicken like it does in the oven. The oven is a dry heat and you get some evaporation of the liquid happening. That does not happen in a crock pot so dont expect the beans to thicken but the flavor will still come together nicely. What do I do if I dont have a blender? No problem at all. If you dont have a blender, I would recommend cutting up the apples. I just open the can and stick a knife in there and kinda saw back and forth (carefully of course) until they are cut up into smaller chunks. You can add that in with the BBQ sauce and BBQ seasoning and stir and continue with the recipe. How to store leftover beans? Store leftover apple pie baked beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave, stovetop, or oven until warmed through. Add a small splash of water if the sauce thickens too much during storage. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)no sugar added apple pie filling You can certainly use the full sugar stuff but I thought with the sweetness of the can of beans plus the sweetness of the BBQ sauce that we didnt need a bunch more sweetness from the apple pie filling. I have found the no sugar added is not quite as sweet as the regular stuff but use what you have. You can always use a lower sugar BBQ sauce as well. I used the Great Value no sugar added apple pie filling (not an affiliate link), but Comstock and Duncan Hines makes a no sugar added version too.barbecue sauce I use Sweet Baby Rays but you can use any brand, or even Homemade BBQ Sauce.barbecue seasoning Mccormicks bbq seasoning was used, but any brand you prefer should work. bacon slices cut into bacon piecessmall onion dicedBushs Original Baked BeansHow To Make Apple Pie Baked BeansPreheat the oven to 325F degrees.Add the apple pie filling, barbecue sauce, and barbecue seasoning to a blender and do a short series of pulses until just combined (we just want to make the apples into slightly smaller chunks).
