Mud Pie
This Mud Pie, also known as Mississippi Mud Pie, is a layered pie with an Oreo crust, fudgy brownie layer, creamy chocolate pudding, and whipped topping. The Ultimate Chocolate PieThis Mud Pie (a.k.a. Mississippi Mud Pie) is a chocolate lovers dream! If you like brownies and chocolate pudding, then this is the dessert for you! It starts with an Oreo cookie crust, then topped with a homemade brownie layer, then topped with chocolate pudding and finally topped with a Cool Whip whipped topping (although you can make it homemade if you prefer!) Frequently Asked Questions:What does a Mud Pie taste like? This is going to differ depending on if youre eating it frozen or thawed. If enjoying it frozen its going to taste a lot like a brownie sundae. If eating it thawed, its going to have an incredibly creamy chocolate layer, light top with a crunch, and then a firm crust/brownie layer. It is very rich! Can I use a premade crust? Yes. A pre-made Oreo crust can save time and works well if youre looking for a shortcut. What if I dont have a food processor? No problem. Place the Oreos in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until finely crushed. Then transfer to a bowl and mix with the melted butter. Can I just use a brownie mix instead? Actually, I dont suggest doing that for the brownie layer. I think it would be too thick to use since this is just a thinner brownie layer. Why didnt my pudding layer set properly? Always make sure that you are using the correct type of pudding mix. You ONLY want to use the INSTANT pudding mix- do NOT use the Cook n Serve variety. It will just stay liquid as it NEEDS to be cooked first and we are not doing that here. You can ONLY use instant pudding mix. If you used the Cook N Serve kind, itll just stay liquid and wont set up correctly. Do I serve this frozen or thawed? It depends on the texture you prefer.Frozen: Tastes like a brownie sundae ice cream pieThawed: Creamier, softer chocolate layer with chewy brownie base How to store a Mississippi Mud Pie? Store in an airtight container, or covered, in the fridge for 3-4 days. Can I freeze a Mud Pie? Do not freeze the full Mississippi Mud Pie overnight unless you have 24 hours to allow it to thaw in order to slice. If freezing, slice the pie first and make sure the slices are separated well, or wrapped separately. Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)Oreo cookies It doesnt have to be the Oreo brand. The store brand version works just fine.butter I typically keep salted butter in my kitchen. I dont think the salt in salted butter is much or really impacts the flavor much, other than helping balance some sweetness. If you only have unsalted butter, or thats what you prefer, you could use that instead.heavy cream Using heavy cream instead of milk helps ensure a thick chocolate cream layer, that tastes almost like ice cream when frozen. But, if you only have milk, you can give it a try.granulated sugar you can make this pie a bit more sugar-friendly if necessary. You could use sugar free ingredients where possible or sugar substitutes.vanilla extractmilkall purpose flourunsweetened cocoa powderbaking powder these ingredients are all for the homemade brownie layer. Its important that you not use a brownie mix here as it would be way too much batter for this layer which is why were making it homemade. instant chocolate pudding mix be sure to grab the instant pudding mix, not the cook n serve kind.
