Biscuit Pretzel Bites
Golden, buttery Biscuit Pretzel Bites (made with canned biscuits!) are soft inside, chewy outside, sprinkled with salt and perfect for dipping in an easy homemade cheese sauce!PRETZEL BITES IN 30 MINUTESDid you know you can make pretzels with canned biscuit dough? Its more about a process really than anything else (its the boiling in baking soda water that makes all the difference!) If youre looking for an easy appetizer or snack thats always a hit, these Biscuit Pretzel Bites are a game changer. They deliver that classic soft pretzel flavor without the hassle of making dough from scratch. Theyre a great snack or appetizer, or you could turn them into a sweet treat with some cinnamon and sugar!FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:How do you turn biscuits into pretzels? You turn biscuit dough into pretzels with the baking soda bath. Boiling the dough in the baking soda gives the biscuits the texture and helps them taste very similar to soft pretzels. Do these taste exactly like a soft pretzel? No, not exactly, but its prettttttty darn close and if you love soft pretzels, this is an easy way to enjoy that same type of flavor! Is the baking soda bath necessary? If you want that traditional pretzel flavor and chewy exterior, you have to do the baking soda bath. You really cant skip this step. Could I make these from scratch? Sure can! Just use my recipe for Homemade Soft Pretzels and cut the dough into bite sizes pieces and continue with the recipe as written. Could I make these sweet? Yes. You can melt some butter and brush the pretzel bites with it and then toss them in a cinnamon and sugar mixture. You could serve it with some caramel dip, vanilla icing or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Can I make these ahead of time? Yes, you can make and form the dough then boil the bites. Place the boiled bites on a baking sheet and refrigerate them until ready to bake before serving. Why is my cheese sauce so thick? Freshly made cheese sauce will start to thicken pretty quickly once you pull it off the heat, so if not eating it all quickly, or right away, I would recommend reheating (slowly and gently) it in the microwave to loosen it back up (you might need to add a little splash of milk as well) or keep it on warm in a small crock pot. How should I store leftover Biscuit Pretzel Bites? The homemade bites are best right when you make them, but you can choose to store leftovers. Pop any leftovers in an airtight container and keep them at room temperature for up to 12 days. You can reheat them in the oven or Air Fryer to help them get warm again before serving. How long does the cheese sauce last? Any leftover cheese can be transferred into an airtight container and can be stored for up to refrigerated for up to 3 days. When ready to reheat, transfer cheese sauce to a pot and gently reheat on the stovetop, or in the microwave. If placing in the microwave, add a splash of milk to help it loosen up before using again. INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)refrigerated biscuit dough I like to use Grands style biscuits, but you can use whatever brand you prefer and have on hand. Whatever brand you have a coupon for or can find for cheap will work.waterbaking soda no substitutions here sorry. Its gotta be baking soda (and make sure its not expired and still active!)unsalted butter you can use salted butter if needed. There is so little salt in salted butter that it wont make a huge difference here. coarse salt You can use something like pretzel salt or flaky sea salt. If you want to change these up a bit, try everything bagel seasoning.all purpose flour this is needed for the optional cheese sauce. It helps to thicken it up.milk whole milk is preferred for making the cheese sauce. It gives the best consistency in my opinion.shredded cheddar cheese you can swap out the cheddar for any other cheese that melts nicely like Colby, Monterey Jack, or even a bit of Velveeta cheese. The cheese sauce is optional.dijon mustard you could swap this out for yellow mustard for a different taste, or even spicy mustard. If youre serving to kids who wont like the mustard flavor, you can omit it and just serve the regular cheese sauce. You dont really taste this as a separate ingredient in my opinion. I think it actually gives it a cheesier taste if that makes sense. HOW TO MAKE BISCUIT PRETZEL BITES:Preheat the oven to 425F degrees.
