ALLTHATSINTERESTING.COMJoe Metheny, The Killer Who Made His Victims Into Burgers And Sold Them To Unsuspecting CustomersWhen the police arrested Joe Metheny for assault in December 1996, they expected him to put up a fight. The 61, 450-pound lumber worker apparently had a tendency to fly off the handle. At the very least, they expected some resistance. What they didnt expect to hear was a detailed and upfront confession the brutality of which shocked the police, especially when Metheny added, Im a very sick person. In his confession, Metheny described to police how he viciously raped, murdered, and dismembered sex workers and people who were homeless. However, these victims just served as a substitute for his one intended victim: his runaway girlfriend. Then, Metheny confessed to his most disturbing crimes. Not only did he himself eat some of the victims flesh, but he served it to other unknowing people as well.Joseph Roy Methenys Insatiable Hunger For RevengeMurderpediaSerial killer Joe Metheny claimed to have murdered 13 people, but evidence of only three murders committed by him has been found.Joe Metheny had always been rough. After being born on March 2, 1955, he endured a childhood of neglect with an absent, alcoholic father and a mother forced to work extra shifts to support her six children. They lived in Essex, near Baltimore, Maryland. Not many other details are known about his younger years, but his mother says he joined the Army in 1973 when he was 19. They lost touch after that.He just kept drifting further and further away. I think the worst thing that ever happened to him was drugs. Its a sad, sad story, she said.Upon leaving the Army, Metheny worked blue collar jobs in lumberyards and and as a truck driver. Then came the incident that sparked his desire for revenge. In 1994, Joe Metheny was living with his girlfriend and their six-year-old son in South Baltimore. As a truck driver, he was on the road for long stints at a time. One day, he came home to find his girlfriend gone along with their child.Like Metheny, she had a drug addiction, and Joe believed she left with another man and took to living on the streets with him. He flew into a rage. He spent days looking for them checking halfway houses and even under a certain bridge where he knew his wife used to buy and do drugs.Under the bridge, he found not his wife but two homeless men whom he believed knew her. When they gave no indication that they knew where his family was, he killed them both with an ax.Immediately afterward, Metheny allegedly noticed a fisherman nearby who could have seen what hed done. Just in case he had, Metheny killed him, too. Some people deem these first three killings crimes of passion, though he later developed a taste for murder. As soon as he realized what he had done, Metheny panicked and tossed the bodies into the river to hide the evidence. He did get some closure on his sons whereabouts, saying, I found out about six months later she had moved on the other side of town with some asshole that had her out selling her ass for drugs. They got busted for drugs and they took my son away from them for child neglect and child abuse. Police arrested Metheny for the murders of the two men under the bridge, and he spent a year and a half in the county jail awaiting trial. However, he was acquitted of any charges, as he dumped their bodies in the nearby river and investigators could not find them. Making Human HamburgersLibrary of Crime/FacebookJoe Metheny in prison.Without physical evidence tying him to the crimes, Joe Metheny went free. He resumed his original quest of seeking out his missing wife and child but this time, something was different.Though he had spent a year and a half awaiting his trial, jail time had clearly done nothing to slow Joe Metheny down. Shortly after being released, Metheny murdered two sex workers when they failed to provide him with information on his missing girlfriend. This time, however, he had a better idea for disposing of their bodies.Instead of tossing them in the river, Metheny brought the bodies home. There, he dismembered them and stored the meatiest parts of them in Tupperware containers. What didnt fit in his freezer, he buried in a truck lot owned by the pallet company he worked for.It seemed that he was now murdering people for sport as much as for revenge.Over the next several weekends, he mixed the sex workers flesh with beef and pork, forming it into neat patties. He would sell these meat patties out of a small barbecue stand he opened on the side of the road.During this time, his customers would all consume bits of human flesh. They became unwitting hiding spots for the bodies of Methenys victims.Whenever he needed more special meat, Metheny would simply venture out and find another sex worker or a vagabond. He later told police that he received no complaints on the meat tasting funny. In fact, no one seemed to notice that his burgers had a little something extra in them. The human body tastes very similar to pork, he said. If you mix it together no one can tell the difference so the next time youre riding down the road and you happen to see an open pit beef stand that youve never seen before, make sure you think about this story before you take a bite of that sandwich.Joe Methenys Death Behind BarsJoe Metheny was finally caught in 1996 when a would-be victim named Rita Kemper managed to escape his clutches and ran straight to the police. During his interrogation, Metheny willingly offered up a confession. He gave details about each of his murders, even mentioning the murder of the fisherman from several years before. According to his confession, he killed 10 people and authorities say theres no reason to believe he wouldve stopped there had they not captured him.Eventually, a jury found him guilty and sentenced Metheny to death. However, a judge overturned this verdict in 2000 and changed it to two consecutive life sentences.WBALTVJoe Metheny was found dead in his jail cell in 2017.The words Im sorry will never come out, for they would be a lie. I am more than willing to give up my life for what I have done, to have God judge me and send [me] to hell for eternity I just enjoyed it, he said at his trial. The only thing I feel bad about in any of this, is I didnt get to murder the two motherfuckers I was really after, he said. And thats my ex ole lady and the bastard she got hooked up with.In 2017, guards found Metheny unresponsive in his cell at the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland at about 3 p.m. They pronounced him dead shortly afterward, thus ending his horrifying saga. After reading about the gruesome crimes of Joe Metheny who cooked his victims into hamburgers he then sold, check out Ed Gein, who also did unspeakable things with the bodies of his victims. Then, check out Marvin Heemeyer who took revenge to a whole other level with his killdozer. The post Joe Metheny, The Killer Who Made His Victims Into Burgers And Sold Them To Unsuspecting Customers appeared first on All That's Interesting.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 21 Views -
ALLTHATSINTERESTING.COMMeet James J. Braddock, The Real-Life Cinderella Man Boxer Who Became A Depression-Era Folk HeroAfro American Newspapers/Gado/Getty ImagesJim Braddock (left) fighting Joe Louis on June 22, 1937.James J. Braddock added that middle initial himself. Though he was actually named James Walter Braddock, he dreamt of following in the footsteps of boxing champs like James J. Corbett and James J. Jeffries. While that triumph as heavyweight boxing champion eventually came to pass, his journey was nothing short of hellish. With a stunning record throughout the mid-1920s, Braddock was climbing his way up to the title fight of his dreams. Mere months before the stock market crash of 1929, however, he lost a crucial bout that wouldve gotten him there and fractured his right hand in several places. His chronic injuries never seemed to heal.Rendered unemployable as a fighter, James Braddock lived in a New Jersey basement with his wife and three kids. He worked the docks and coal yard, tended bar, and moved furniture to feed them. He owed everyone from landlord to milkman, however, and could only afford bread and potatoes. One winter, his electricity was cut off.Braddock spent years asking his manager Joe Gould to get him another shot at the title. It finally arrived on June 13, 1935, when heavyweight champion Max Baer agreed to defend it. In one of the greatest upsets in boxing history, Braddock dethroned Baer, found fame, and became a folk hero for the Great Depression.James J. Braddock Becomes A BoxerJames Walter Braddock was born on June 7, 1905, in Hells Kitchen in New York City. His parents Elizabeth OTool and Joseph Braddock were both immigrants of Irish descent. Braddock took his first breath on West 48th Street mere blocks from Madison Square Garden where the world would eventually learn his name.Bettmann/Getty ImagesThe Cinderella Man in training. The family relocated to North Bergen, New Jersey, after Braddock was born. He was one of seven siblings but had higher ambitions than most. Braddock dreamed of attending the University of Notre Dame and playing football, but coach Knute Rockne ultimately passed on him. Braddock thus firmly focused on boxing.James Braddock had his first amateur fight at 17 and turned professional three years later. On April 13, 1926, the 160-pound middleweight climbed into the ring at Amsterdam Hall in Union City, New Jersey, and fought Al Settle. At the time, the winner was typically chosen by attending sportswriters. This one ended in a draw.Critics later noted that he wasnt the most skilled boxer, but had an iron chin that took extended punishment and wore his opponents out. Braddock steadily rose in the ranks to build a record of 33 wins, four losses, and six draws by November 1928 when he knocked out Tuffy Griffiths in an upset that stunned the sport.James J. Braddock lost his next fight but won the following three. He was now one bout away from challenging Gene Tunney for the title. He had to defeat Tommy Loughran to do so, however. He not only lost that fight on July 18, 1929, but fractured the bones in his right hand and would spend the next six years fighting for his life.Surviving The Great DepressionWhile the decision against James Braddock had been narrow, most critics felt he had squandered his one chance at the title. The cast on his hand served as a reminder of that notion, as did Goulds increasing difficulty in finding Braddock another fight. Ultimately, however, the American economy became his biggest challenger.FPG/Getty ImagesJimmy Braddock receiving a medical checkup the night before his fight against Max Baer.On Oct. 29, 1929, Black Tuesday sent the United States tumbling into the Great Depression. Wall Street investors had traded 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange in one day, with thousands of investors losing everything as billions of dollars vanished. The Roaring Twenties were now over, and desperation set in.Braddock didnt know it yet, but his recent loss was only the first of 20 over the next four years. He also got married to a woman named Mae Fox in 1930 and spent every waking hour trying to provide for their three young children. When he broke his hand fighting Abe Feldman on Sept. 25, 1933, he gave up on boxing.James Jr., Howard, and Rosemarie Braddock didnt know anything but poverty. For their father, life in a cramped basement in Woodcliffe, New Jersey, was no life at all. Desperate for cash, Braddock regularly walked to the local docks to find work as a longshoreman. When he did, he earned four dollars per day.Braddock spent the rest of his time cleaning peoples basements, shoveling driveways, and sweeping floors. In the winter of 1934, however, he couldnt pay rent nor the milkman. When his electricity was cut off, one of his loyal friends lent him $35 to get his affairs in order. Braddock did, but was immediately broke again.Bettmann/Getty ImagesJames J. Braddock (right) won against Max Baer in a unanimous decision. While he relied on government relief for the next 10 months, things looked up when fighter John Griffin was desperate for a local name to fight. Miraculously, Braddock knocked him out in the third round, only to then defeat John Henry Lewis and regain his shot at the title after beating Art Lasky and breaking his nose.James Braddock, Heavyweight Champion Of The WorldContracts for the heavyweight title fight were finalized on April 11, 1935. James Braddock and Joe Gould were to split $31,000 if the fight made more than $200,000. While certainly appealing, Braddock was most interested in winning. Fortunately for him, defending champion Max Baer thought of him as an easily beatable opponent.Even the odds suggested as much, as they ranged from six-to-one to 10-to-one for Baer. It certainly looked bad for Braddock when the opening bell dinged at Madison Square Garden on June 13. The 29-year-old was three years older than Baer and endured a powerful parade of punches that evening. He was ultimately only in shape from his work at the docks but knew how to take a punch. His iron chin never wavered, and eventually, Baer grew tired. To the shock of all spectators at Madison Square Garden that night, Braddock won 12 of 15 rounds and became heavyweight champion of the world in a unanimous decision by the judges.Bettmann/Getty ImagesJimmy Braddock signs autographs for fans in New York City.As dramatized in Ron Howards 2005 film Cinderella Man, he had risen from an impoverished dock worker to a nationwide celebrity. While he lost the title to Joe Louis in 1937, he lived a full life. Braddock joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific theater of World War II, only to return as a surplus supplier who helped build the Verrazano Bridge. While Jimmy Braddock was seen as a national folk hero until his death at 69 years old on November 29, 1974, his true reward was that he was now considered in the same league as his idols with his fight against Baer commonly described as the greatest fistic upset since the defeat of John L. Sullivan by Jim Corbett. After learning about James J. Braddock, read about Bill Richmond, the freed slave who became a boxer. Then, take a look at inspiring pictures from the life of Muhammad Ali.The post Meet James J. WWW.DUALSHOCKERS.COM10 PS2 Games That Shaped Modern Gaming More Than Players RealizedIts no secret that the PlayStation 2 was the jackpot winner of the sixth console generation. It had a borderline flawless intersection of powerful hardware and both first- and third-party support; all the games you wanted, presented in the best capacity available at the time. While it wouldnt be fair to undersell the hardware in that equation, though, I dont think it would be hyperbolic to say that the games were pulling the majority of the weight.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 22 Views
