The strategy genre may have started out as more of a PC-focussed niche, but it has quickly evolved into one of the dominant forces on the market. Developers have tackled the genre with an incredible amount of creativity and variety, leading to all forms of titles ranging from futuristic sci-fi to stone-age city builders. Whether you want to chart the far-flung stars of some unknown galaxy or set up a work town in a New Era colony, the strategy genre has something for just about everyone.

The Director of the upcoming third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has said the game could receive DLC, much like the first game did, which might make up for taking DLC away from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Dying Light Franchise Director Tymon Smektaa has announced he will be stepping away from developer Techland in order to pursue new things. Smektaa, who acted as producer on both the first game and Dying Light 2, has since been the Polish studio's man in charge of the series. While his departure is certainly a blow, Smektaa thanks the community for its love and support, and promises that he'll continue to root for the "next chapter" of the Dying Light story.

id has revealed that, if it hadn't updated its idtech engine to use ray tracing instead of pre-baked global illumination, Doom: The Dark Ages could have taken far longer to develop and been a much larger install size. The company has claimed that just the pre-baked lighting data for all the game's maps/environments could have needed as much as 110GB of storage and taken as much as two months to render fully each time. However, by making this change, the company effectively traded storage and its development time for backwards compatibility and your PC's performance. Doom: The Dark Ages was famously one of the first games to require a GPU with ray tracing processors, with it landing around the same time as other ray-tracing-required titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (which also uses idtech8) and Black Myth: Wukong. This requirement left many gamers unable to play the game at all, or only able to play with relatively poor performance. Now, in a presentation at the graphics conference, SIGGRAPH, id has revealed its motivation for this decision.
