Cubic Odyssey update makes the intergalactic Minecraft rival way more varied

Have you ever been playing Minecraft and wished you could take your adventure off terra firma and into the stars above? That's the premise of Cubic Odyssey, which launched on Steam in May 2025. Developer Atypical Games is still in the process of expanding what it has to offer, and the latest update overhauls the story-driven adventure mode to make every playthrough feel unique. While it was already easy to draw comparisons to the likes of No Man's Sky, this new change pushes things even further in that direction, in a good way.

The new Cubic Odyssey update features quite a few improvements, but the new adventure mode seeding system is the biggest of them. World-generation seeds are a very popular way to keep the best sandbox games feeling fresh every time you start anew. Each adventure will begin by scattering the various planets and star systems randomly across the space game, meaning that you won't be able to rely on pre-learned knowledge to find what you're looking for.

You aren't dropped off completely unprepared, at least. "At the start of the game you will be spawned on a random planet with a speeder, a spaceship, tier-one gear, batteries, and a stack of resources to build your first shelter," Atypical explains. "It's up to you to figure out where you are and what to do next." If you're already playing through an adventure, don't worry that you're missing out on these goodies - the beginner's spaceship and speeder will be added to your inventory automatically.

The team has also made several tweaks to co-op play. If you join a session in space, you'll be spawned flying your ship, while jumping into a game that's on a planet will spawn you in your parked spacecraft. Syncing between clients has been improved to make doors and elevators work better, and remove potential item duplication glitches caused by multiplayer. Atypical notes that players must be in the same game type to play together (so you'll need an adventure mode character to join an adventure playthrough).

"One-cube stepping" has been introduced, and you can have it always on or set it to only activate while sprinting. This means your character will now travel up and down single-cube height differences without needing to jump, letting you move around much more conveniently. Neutral NPCs have been made more reactive to incoming attacks, you'll no longer be able to waste resources trying to repair a speeder type you already have access to, you can sell unwanted ships, and mimics will now reveal themselves when they take damage.
