New Hollow Knight Silksong update will make the game easier after player outcry

Hollow Knight Silksong's release has certainly been an interesting one. Having literally broken everything from Steam to the Xbox store, Team Cherry's highly anticipated Metroidvania is finally out in the world, debuting to glowing player reviews (ours is still incoming). But as time has gone on and the 'it's finally out' sparkle has worn off, some have started to really scrutinize the game. The first major complaint is about its difficulty: we all expected it to be hard, but not this hard. The second has focused on its respawn points, which are often placed relatively far away from bosses, in turn requiring you to rerun the gauntlet to get to them every time you die. In short, it's kicking players' asses, but the first Hollow Knight Silksong patch is taking some steps towards evening things out.

The first major change is to two of the early Hollow Knight Silksong bosses, Moorwing and Sister Splinter. While the latter is certainly tricky, the former has caused problems across the board given that it's basically the definition of fast and furious, darting around at speed while summoning spinning blades. It's a pretty tough foe, even by Hollow Knight Silksong's standards, and given it appears relatively early on, it's become sticking point for a lot of players.

The spidery Sister Splinter is a slightly different story, as she remains glued to the roof for most of the fight, instead challenging your upwards mobility. If you jump too high, you run the risk of taking damage from her hitbox, but not jumping high enough will mean you can't reach her with your attacks. Again, it's a pretty chaotic fight, and it falls relatively early in the Metroidvania's story.

Over in a Steam update, Team Cherry says that the patch includes a "slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter," so hopefully you'll be able to squash these bugs and keep on movin'.

There are also adjustments to rewards and resource costs. Rosaries, the game's primary currency, now drop more frequently from relics and psalm cylinders, and you'll be better rewarded upon completion of courier deliveries. Bellway and Bell Bench prices have also been lowered, meaning your Rosary count won't feel like my bank balance - full, then immediately at zero.

Using your Snitch Pick will also grant more Rosaries, as well as Shell Shards, so generally you'll be earning more resources at a faster rate, which should help you power up a lot quicker. Team Cherry says that the first Hollow Knight Silksong patch should arrive by "mid next week," implying that we'll see it land before or on Wednesday September 17. You can check out the full notes here.
