Olive Brown

"Classic ‘70s color palettes are making a groovy comeback, but the bright retro aesthetic isn’t for everyone. A moody olive-toned green blends the nostalgic decorating trend with neutral, nature-inspired interiors for a hue that’s sure to be popular with minimalists and lovers of bold color alike."

Light Dusty Teal

"I predict dusty teal will soon be everywhere—on accent walls, kitchen cabinets, and even exteriors. This muted hue blends the fan-favorite shade of dusty cornflower blue with ever-popular sage green. As ultra-bold jewel tones fall from favor, people still crave rich color. Dusty teal delivers depth while staying versatile enough for coastal decor, cottagecore aesthetics, and traditional decorating styles."

Energetic Green

"Green is long touted for its calming essence, naturally, with its allusion to the natural world. But I predict a green with an energy to it—a bit of a zing and a boost, if you will. In the fashion world, we've seen pops of fiery crimson red in 2023, coastal cerulean blues in 2024, and rich chocolate brown in 2025—in 2026, I think it's green's turn. Not quite as flashy as a chartreuse or lime, but not quite as muted as sage, somewhere between. A warmer-toned hue with a bit of brightness. It's my favorite accent color—as of late, I've been rocking a pair of translucent green aviators paired with a grassy green linen tote bag. This color brings the same energy as being a kid and running barefoot through dewy grass—grounding yet energizing."

Powder Blues

"Subtle and sweet, these soft shades of blue play nicely with a wide range of decorating styles, whether you gravitate toward more traditional styles like coastal or cottage, or something a bit more modern. Powder blues always feel calm and cozy, like a breath of fresh air, thanks to their sea and sky inspiration—and we could all use a little R&R going into the new year."

"Ugly" Greens

"I love these weird shades of green that are a little bit ugly—positive connotation, of course! They're typically yellow-based and tend to lean towards olive tones. It's a combination of some trending shades—chartreuse and butter yellow—and can also share a bit of the warmth I've been loving in browns the past few years. Plus, they can be so versatile! These greens come in many different shades and tones, and vary significantly based on their styling and the way the light hits them. But most importantly, I think it makes spaces look and feel so interesting. It might need time to grow on people, but I think that's part of what makes it so enjoyable."

Butter Yellow

"I'm predicting butter yellow. It gives a nostalgic feel, yet looks fresh as a daisy. It's a warm, neutral shade that looks great on cabinetry, walls, and in accent lights. Yellow is a happy color, and I think we're all craving more of that."

— Kathy Barnes, Senior Editor, Home Design

Suggested paint colors: Clearly Citrus by Dutch Boy Paints and Butter by Benjamin Moore
