We're Calling It: 6 Hues Our Editors Predict for 2026 Color of the Year

Every summer, our editors wait excitedly for our favorite paint companies' official Color of the Year announcements—and this year, we're making a few predictions of our own. From retro-inspired color palettes to nature-inspired hues, the BHG editors are sharing their top picks for the colors that will define 2026.

Olive Brown

Dusty teal delivers depth while staying versatile enough for coastal decor, cottagecore aesthetics, and traditional decorating styles."

Energetic Green

"Green is long touted for its calming essence, naturally, with its allusion to the natural world. But I predict a green with an energy to it—a bit of a zing and a boost, if you will. In the fashion world, we've seen pops of fiery crimson red in 2023, coastal cerulean blues in 2024, and rich chocolate brown in 2025—in 2026, I think it's green's turn. Not quite as flashy as a chartreuse or lime, but not quite as muted as sage, somewhere between. A warmer-toned hue with a bit of brightness. It's my favorite accent color—as of late, I've been rocking a pair of translucent green aviators paired with a grassy green linen tote bag. This color brings the same energy as being a kid and running barefoot through dewy grass—grounding yet energizing."

Powder Blues

"Ugly" Greens

"I love these weird shades of green that are a little bit ugly—positive connotation, of course! They're typically yellow-based and tend to lean towards olive tones. It's a combination of some trending shades—chartreuse and butter yellow—and can also share a bit of the warmth I've been loving in browns the past few years. Plus, they can be so versatile! These greens come in many different shades and tones, and vary significantly based on their styling and the way the light hits them. But most importantly, I think it makes spaces look and feel so interesting. It might need time to grow on people, but I think that's part of what makes it so enjoyable."
