Where can you find a red soldier ant egg in Grounded 2? Much of Grounded 2 feels the same as the first game. In many ways, it's a perfect sequel, with the mechanics remaining much the same, while the story continues from the original. Among the new mechanics are ridable mounts, and you'll need an egg to get your very first Buggy.

Instead of pets, Grounded 2 introduces Buggies, aka mounts. While the questline directs you to your first Buggy, actually finding a Grounded 2 red soldier ant egg and surviving the terrifying hatchery anthill in the survival game is a tough challenge. If you're struggling, here's how to find your way around and our best tips for surviving the dark crevices of the anthill.

Where to find a red soldier ant egg

Red soldier ant eggs can be found in the hatchery anthill, but there are also normal ant eggs in here, so don't get the two confused. The soldier eggs are smaller and reddish-brown, unlike the more common, milky white worker eggs.

To find soldier ant eggs, follow these directions:

  • Enter the hatchery anthill at the southern entrance.
  • Head down the slope until you reach an abandoned ranger area.
  • Turn left, following the direction of the cable.
  • Keep following the cable through the anthill until you can follow it no further.
  • Here, turn left and follow the path around until you see a ranger station door.
  • Head into the ranger station, where an egg is levitating in the middle of the room.
  • Leave the station through the door opposite where you came in, and you'll find a deposit of red soldier ant eggs on the ground nearby.

You can also see the path in the video above.

Navigating the labyrinthine anthill isn't the only challenge, as tricky foes are also waiting for you, and all ants will attack you once you're carrying an egg. You can only carry one egg at a time unless you're already riding a Buggy, and being hit causes you to drop it. You can simply pick it up again, though.

How to survive the anthill

Your biggest challenge in the anthill is a mammoth ORC Weaver Spider. She'll be waiting for you somewhere near the ranger station, and you can see her from a bright purple flashing light coming from an ORC Receiver on her head.

A Grounded 2 red soldier ant egg floats in the center of a research facility.

The best play here is a bit cheeky, but she's a difficult enemy to beat. We took her down by using the automatic doors on the ranger station to keep her at bay. With a bow and plenty of arrows at the ready, you can defeat the spider by readying a charged shot, walking towards the doors until they open, shooting the spider, and then backing away until the doors close. A successful hit should push the spider slightly, preventing her from coming into the enclosed space with you. If this does happen, well, it was nice knowing you.

This is one of the toughest parts of the early game to get through, and once you've obtained a red soldier ant egg in Grounded 2, you can go ahead and place it in a hatchery. Your new buggy pal will be a huge asset moving forward in the multiplayer game and is a great help in defeating more foes, including Grounded 2 scorpions, wolf spiders, and more.
