You can recreate a version of Cracker Barrel's famous fried cinnamon apples with just six ingredients and 25 minutes of time. Our copycat recipe walks you through making the classic country side dish from start to finish. For the best flavor and texture, the BHG Test Kitchen recommends using combination or just one type of the following apples: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Gala, Jazz, and/or Golden Delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup salted butter

  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and cut into thin wedges (6 cups)

  • 1/2 cup apple juice

  • 3 Tbsp. packed brown sugar

  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch

  • 1 1/2 tsp. apple pie spice

  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. In a 12-inch (extra-large) skillet melt butter over medium heat. Add apples and toss to coat. Cook, stirring occasionally until starting to soften, about 8 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl whisk together apple juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, apple pie spice, and salt. Add to skillet. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly, about 1 minute.

  3. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender, 5 to 10 minutes.
