Intel's next-gen Panther Lake CPU for laptops and handhelds shows GTX 1060 GPU performance in new leak

A new Intel Panther Lake leak has appeared, showing the potential of the new integrated GPU for upcoming laptop and gaming handheld chips. Not only does it dwarf the power of the company's current generation of CPUs, but in this one test, it shows performance comparable to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. That's an old graphics card, but it's a desktop model that, according to the recent November 2025 Steam hardware survey, is still the 15th most-used GPU by Steam gamers.

Intel Panther Lake is the codename for the company's upcoming lineup of laptop and gaming handheld CPUs, with the new range of chips expected to launch in January 2026 as the Intel Core Ultra 300 series. Over the last few months, we've seen a host of leaks about the new lineup, with several hinting at how much more powerful the GPU in these chips will be compared to Intel Core Ultra 200, but this latest leak hammers the point home.

The leak comes via the GPU benchmarking and stress test software, Furmark, where a new entry has appeared on its scores database (first spotted by regular tech leaker @momo_us on X) detailing a device running an Intel Core Ultra 5 338H, which is expected to be a mid-tier variant of the new Panther Lake lineup. The test shows a score of 2,393 points and a frame rate of 39fps at 2,560 x 1,440, which is a comparable performance level to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, and not far off the 3,140 points of an RTX 3050.

The benchmark run report also shows the chip as including an Intel Arc B370 GPU with a core clock of between 400MHz and 2,300MHz, as well as the device running in a 36W power mode. This power mode, along with the test resolution, has led some to believe this test must be from a new handheld, such as a new variant of the OneXPlayer X1.

The B370 GPU is believed to contain ten of the new Intel GPU architecture's Xe3 cores. This compares to the 20 Xe2 cores in the company's B580 desktop graphics card and eight Xe2 cores in the Intel Core Ultra 7 285V used in the MSI Claw 8 AI+ gaming handheld.

This leak, and the suggestion of the big step in GPU power that will arrive with Intel's latest laptop and handheld chips, also tallies with several other leaks we've encountered in recent months. For instance, the Core Ultra X chips of the lineup are rumored to feature 12 Xe3 GPU cores. Intel itself has also proclaimed the new chips will "set [a] new standard" for gaming performance on mobile devices.

Expected to be officially unveiled in January 2026 at its press conference at the world's latest tech trade show, CES, we don't have long left to wait to find out if these rumors are true. For now, however, they should be taken with a grain of salt.
