You could get Arc Raiders, my favorite multiplayer game of the year, for just $1 if you're lucky

Whether the intensity of hoarding gear and waiting for extraction while I sweat through my clothes, or the relief as that 'returning to speranza' screen pops up, or all of the exciting gunfights that happen prior, Arc Raiders is an absolute blast to play. No matter what type of multiplayer gamer you are, it's an incredible time, and one you could score for just $1 if you're feeling particularly lucky.

Arc Raiders has quickly proven itself as one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played, and while extraction shooters are usually known for high skill ceilings and unbridled tension, Embark Studios' latest title somehow manages to balance both in a way that is both exciting and rewarding. Even if you do lose all your hard-earned gear from that latest trip, I still try again with a smile on my face and the hope of getting it right next time.

Every match starts with you selecting your preferred gear and launching into one of the maps. Each of them is distinct, with different levels of verticality and hot spots that hide that all-too-valuable loot, but the main goal remains the same: complete your quests, score some equipment, and extract safely. There are both enemy NPCs in the form of Arc machines and other players to defeat or avoid - and there's a great mixture of people who want to help and others who want to fight.

The best way to describe Arc Raiders is simple - it's an excellent game that serves as a social experiment just as much as it is a form of entertainment. Each time you encounter another Raider, you have to decide if they're friend or foe. You'll find yourself thinking, "Should I kill this guy while he's vulnerable, even though he trusts me?" The answer to that is up to you (I personally don't do it, but more power to you).

If you're keen to give it a try, but you don't can't afford to buy a full price brand new game right now, then Fanatical is giving you the chance to grab a Steam key for Arc Raiders for as little as $1, with the Mystery Gem Bundle, as part of a selection of GOTY packs. It's a random chance to win the game and a variety of other prizes, from Steam Decks to monitors or other triple-A experiences. Here are the other games available in the new GOTY packs added:

  • Monster Hunter Wilds Premium Deluxe Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Deluxe Edition
  • Stellar Blade Complete Edition

Even if you don't win Arc Raiders, each gem is a key for a game, so you're not really losing. You can also buy more gems at a discounted price, with 25 gems only setting you back $16.79. It's worth the chance, and I've personally found myself filling up my Steam library with some excellent indies, so I'd highly recommend it. But, if you did win that Arc Raiders copy? Well, what a great day that would be.
