What to Know About Farmers' Almanac

Farmers’ Almanac has been around since 1818, marking its final edition over 200 years after its inception, and is well-known for its dependable weather prediction.

The Farmers’ Almanac determines its own unique long-range weather predictions via an “astronomical formula,” the likes of which have been kept a secret for 208 years. These predictions prove especially useful to not only farmers, but also gardeners, who rely on long-range forecasts to help inform how they plant, care for, and protect their garden from season to season.

Consulting the Farmers’ Almanac daily has given readers a trusty list of what each day is best for—from washing your wooden floors to going fishing.

Why It's Shutting Down

Not many details were revealed in the publication's farewell letter posted on Nov. 6, 2025, but the Farmers' Almanac team revealed financial difficulties were behind the decision to cease operations in an exclusive with TODAY.

“We are incredibly proud of the legacy we leave behind and are filled with gratitude,” says Sandi Duncan and Peter Geiger, editor and editor emeritus of the Farmers' Almanac in the farewell letter. “We appreciate and thank our loyal readers, contributors, and partners who have supported us through the years. Though the Almanac will no longer be available in print or online, it lives on within you.”

How to Get Your Hands on the Final Edition

The Farmers' Almanac website will only stay operable until this December, but the 2026 print edition of Farmers’ Almanac will remain available to purchase for some time after the website closes at a variety of brick-and-mortar retailers across the nation as well as on Amazon.

The 2026 edition is also available to purchase on the Farmers’ Almanac website, so if you’re interested in supporting the publication directly one last time, be sure to make your purchase before the site is taken down in December.
