Kittens Left in a Box on Doorstep Grow into Happiest Young Cats Thanks to Those Who Never Gave Up on Them
Three kittens left in a box on a doorstep have grown into the happiest young cats, thanks to those who never gave up on them. JenJen, an experienced foster volunteer with Kitty of Angels, learned about three kittens who had been found in a box."They were abandoned on the doorstep of a community member who helps with TNR," Jen told Love Meow. The kittens were about two weeks old, unable to regulate their body temperature, and in desperate need of round-the-clock care."My incubator was open, and I got approval from the rescue, so I said, 'Send them over.'" JenOn their first day in foster care, the kittens had a healthy appetite. But within days, they developed blisters on their faces and legs and began to decline. "I switched to tube-feeding because they stopped eating."With fluids, medication, and tireless efforts, the kittens regained enough strength to latch onto the bottle again. JenFor several weeks, it was touch-and-go. Some days looked better, but the next day would bring a new problem. "We could take one step forward and two steps back. They would gain weight, then lose it again. They just couldn't hold onto it."Even though their progress was painfully slow, the trio hung on, fighting with all the strength their tiny bodies could muster. Fat TonyJen"Fat Tony (tabby) is always front and center. Louie Legs (white and tabby) is a happy little guy. He is much smaller than his siblings, but he is full of love and purrs." Johnny Tightlips (black), initially thought to be a boy, was the sickest, yet she refused to give up.Unsure if any of them would reach the target weight in a few weeks, Jen pushed forward, doing everything in her power to keep them nourished and loved. Louie LegsJenAt six weeks old, Louie Legs, the runt of the litter, finally began to look like a kitten again. He purred the moment he saw his foster mom and melted into her hand whenever she picked him up.With each passing day, their bodies strengthened and their personalities began to blossom. Jen"Fat Tony is a total cuddler, but also loves to wrestle. He is quite a bit bigger than his siblings. Tightlips is my little shadow. She is the first one on my lap when I sit down. If I come into the room, she makes a beeline for me. She even tries to help me clean the litter boxes."Then, at about 7.5 weeks, something clicked. The kittens began eating consistently and, for the first time, keeping the weight on. Johnny Tightlips, Fat Tony, and Louie LegsJen"They started looking and acting like real kittens. That's when I knew they would be okay. They got fixed right on schedule last week, and we found out Johnny Tightlips was actually a girl."Against all odds, the three kittens overcame every hurdle and were finally ready to find their forever homes. JenFat Tony is the biggest and the boss, but he's also a champion snuggler with the loudest purr. Louie Legs is a gentle soul with long legs. "He loves to nuzzle into my neck, purr, and fall asleep. He'll chase any toy and loves being chased by Fat Tony."A loving young couple fell head over heels for the two brothers and adopted them together just two days ago. Louie Legs and Fat Tony were adopted togetherJen"Tightlips is my shadow. She is everywhere I am, often before I even get there. She either follows at my heels or beats me to the chair when she knows I'm going that way. She loves getting kisses and being as close as possible."These kittens have come a long way since they were found in a box. Fat Tony and Louie Legs are already living their happily ever after, and Tightlips, who has shown the same courage and love, is ready for a family of her own.
