A gentle cat who stayed frozen in one spot for three days, too frightened to move, is safe indoors now, and his favorite thing in the world is being cradled like a baby in a trusted person's arms. He had been left behind, alone and afraid, in a place he was too scared to leave, and for three days he did not.To a terrified cat with nowhere to go, that spot was the only thing that felt familiar, even with no home around it and no one keeping watch. It was also, as it turned out, a dangerous place to stay.When Gissell, who runs Paws of Hope NYC based in Brooklyn, NY, set out to bring him in, the spot was empty. It laid bare how much danger Gambino had been in, and how little time he had left. He was frightened and all but out of options.This time, though, someone reached him before it was too late. Gissell drew him back within range, and Gambino let himself be brought in from the wild. "Sometimes, the person who changes a cat's fate isn't the one who finds them," she says when speaking with LoveMeow. "It's the one who gives them somewhere to go." He is remarkably gentle, and he does not mind other cats in the slightest.His favorite thing in the world gives him away. Set him in a trusted person's arms, and he wants to be cradled like a baby, and he settles in as though he has been waiting his whole life to be held. Gambino has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested. Results came back negative for any of the major feline infections. One booster vaccine is the only thing left on his list. When Gambino's story went out, that community answered, chipping in the donations that covered his care.Gissell gives them the credit. "The happy ending," she says, "belongs to all of us."
