The twin pillars that buttress my love of the Metroidvania genre are Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Both of those games introduced me to the genre, and as a result, I go out of my way every year to discover and play as many games as possible. And wouldn't you know it, 2026 is an exceptional year for the genre!
