Mom Cat and Her Kittens Rescued from Colony Beat Odds and Found Their Way to Love
A mother cat and her kittens were part of a cat colony. They ended up beating the odds and finding their way into loving arms. NY Foster KittensPurrdy, a beautiful tabby with the most extraordinary purr youve ever heard, was part of an outdoor cat colony, raising her four kittens the only way she knew how: tough, resourceful, and with every ounce of love a mama cat can give. Despite the unpredictability of colony life, she was doing something remarkable. When rescuers from the SPCA of Tomkins County arrived as part of a TNR (trap-neuter-return) effort and got eyes on her little family, they found kittens that were clean, plump, and thriving. Against the odds, Purrdy had managed to give her babies the best possible start. NY Foster KittensWhen the SPCA called their foster NYFosterKittens, it didnt take long for the right person to step up. The foster drove over, ready to meet this little family, and before they even opened the carrier, Purrdy made herself known. "When they brought the carrier out, I immediately heard her loud purr," the foster recalls. "I wondered if it was especially loud as a stress response, but when I opened the carrier and extended my hand, Purrdy immediately rubbed her face against it and I would come to find out that's just her natural purr!" NY Foster KittensThat is simply who Purrdy is. A cat who came in off the streets and chose to trust immediately. To lean in and to purr like the whole world was already her living room tells you everything you need to know about her. Her four kittens - Charlie, Claudie, Julia, and Bailey, tumbled into foster care alongside her, tiny and curious and full of potential. Every kitten in the litter had their own personality from the start, but Bailey stood out in a way that made his week something to cherish. Born with a serious condition involving excess fluid on the brain, Baileys prognosis was uncertain. But that first week? He was right there with his siblings, hitting milestone after milestone. He was curious. He was present. He was even the first of the litter to drink water on his own, a tiny champion in every sense. NY Foster KittensSadly, Bailey experienced a rapid onset of symptoms and passed away before he could see what the world had in store for him. His short life was full of warmth, siblings, and a mother who never stopped caring for him. In one of those quietly breathtaking moments you couldnt plan if you tried, the last time Bailey came home from the vet, his brothers and sisters gathered around him in a cuddle puddle. When the foster looked down from above, the kittens had arranged themselves into a perfect heart. Bailey was loved every single day he was here, and that is a beautiful thing. NY Foster KittensCharlie, Claudie, and Julia are growing fast, becoming more coordinated, more bold, and more mischievous by the day. Their world right now is cozy and contained inside their kitten playpen, but it grows a little bigger every week as they explore and discover. NY Foster KittensRecently, they were introduced to a new treehouse scratcher, and it was an instant hit, with the kittens and with Purrdy herself. Watching them all pile into it, batting at each other and claiming their spots, its hard to believe these cats were living in a colony just weeks ago. NY Foster KittensCharlie, who is hard to miss with his striking dark black stripe down his back and bold tabby markings, is a certified lap cat. NY Foster KittensJulia is the observer of the group and keeps an eye on everything. Sometimes, she wants to observe so much that she stays up when all her siblings are sleeping. NY Foster KittensClaudia, sweet and steady, rounds out the trio with all the charm of a kitten who knows exactly who she is. NY Foster KittensAnd then theres Purrdy. This beautiful tabby mama has done everything right from day one. Her purr is legendary. It is loud and constant and joyful, and it doesn't require much to kick it into full gear. A slow belly rub will do it. Honestly, just making eye contact might do it. NY Foster KittensCharlie, Julia, and Claudia are on their way to being ready for adoption, growing stronger and more playful with every passing day, along with their Mama Purrdy. And when that time comes, each of them will carry a piece of this story with them: the colony, the rescue, the little treehouse scratcher, the cuddle puddles, and a mama who never stopped purring. The best part of their story is still ahead.Follow along with this family's journey and stay tuned for adoption details as they get closer to being ready for their forever homes.
