Ingredients Needed For Slow Cooker Orange Chicken
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts– there will be enough sauce to cook 4 to 6 chicken breasts.
Dry Onion Soup Mix– I use Lipton Dry Onion Soup Mix. Also great for making French Onion Potatoes.
Jar of Orange Marmalade– adds lots of sweetness and orange flavor. Can use peach marmalade or apricot marmalade instead.
Russian Dressing– French dressing can be used instead.
Red Pepper Flakes– add a little heat to balance the sweetness. Can be left out.
Cornstarch– used to thicken the sauce (optional).
Green Onions– for garnish.
Dump and Go Crockpot Recipe
This recipe is so easy to make. No pre-cooking needed. Just add the chicken to a slow cooker and sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the chicken. Stir together the orange marmalade, Russian dressing, and crushed red pepper flakes. Pour over chicken. Cook on LOW for 4 hours.
To thicken the sauce, transfer it to a small pot. Add an equal amount of cold water to the cornstarch and whisk it into the sauce. Heat until thickened. Pour sauce over chicken and sprinkle with green onion.
Can I Use Chicken Thighs?
Yes! You can use boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts. They will need to be cooked slightly longer.
Recipe Tip
If your chicken breasts are really large and thick, cut each one in half horizontally into 2 thinner pieces.
Cook Chicken on Low or High?
I recommend cooking chicken breasts only on LOW in a slow cooker. If cooked on HIGH, they are too likely to get dry and chewy in texture.
Equipment Needed
You will need a 6-quart or slightly larger slow cooker for this recipe.
How To Store
Leftovers will keep for 4 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in a microwave.
