Kitten Found Himself in a Drain Unable to Get Out, Many Came Together to Help the Young Cat
A kitten found himself in a roadside drain, unable to get out, and many people came together to help the young cat. LuigiLiberation Cat HouseA Good Samaritan noticed a kitten darting across the road and decided to stop and investigate. As she searched for the stray, she heard cries coming from a nearby storm drain and realized a kitten was trapped below. She contacted her local rescue, Liberation Cat House, for help. "It happened to be just five minutes from my house, so of course, I jumped in my car and drove straight over," Alyssa, a volunteer with the rescue, shared with Love Meow."It didn't take long to locate what drain he was in, as he was screaming at the top of his lungs." Liberation Cat HouseAlyssa tried using a few makeshift contraptions to rescue the kitten, but nothing worked. Thankfully, reinforcement soon arrived. "Several rescue directors and friends joined the rescue efforts. With their help, we were able to remove the grate that was covering the drain and crawl down inside."With a severe thunderstorm looming, they knew they were in a race against time to get the kitten to safety. Liberation Cat HouseWhen neither food nor recordings of meowing cats could lure the kitten out, David volunteered to crawl into the narrow 16-inch pipe to rescue the kitten. "There wasn't enough room to shimmy back out. His only option was to crawl through the entirety of the pipewhich spanned underground across four lanes of traffic and a large median."As the minutes ticked by, they anxiously waited for David to traverse the storm drain while Stacey stood at the other end, ready to catch the kitten. Liberation Cat House"As soon as the kitten was close enough, she scooped him up and placed him safely in a carrier," Ashley, a director of Liberation Cat House, told Love Meow.David emerged on the other side, covered in spiderwebs and spiders, but felt a wave of relief now that the kitten was safe. Shortly after they left the scene, the storm unleashed torrential rain and hail. Liberation Cat HouseThe kitten, Luigi, meowed nonstop for the entire ride home, and after a few nervous hisses, he began to decompress and eventually settled into his cozy nook at his foster home. "As soon as I started petting him, he relaxed.""He handled his bath like a champ, and once he was wrapped in a towel, he started purring in my arms." Liberation Cat House"I gave him a stuffed animal, and he immediately curled up with it, purring and kneading on the blanket."With a full belly and a warm bed, Luigi quickly came out of his shell. He started greeting Ashley when she entered the room, nuzzling against her and filling the space with his gentle purrs. "His appetite is great, and he clearly loves attention." Liberation Cat House"I'm so thankful he's safe and that so many people came together to save his life. Just 30 minutes after we rescued him, a heavy storm rolled in with rain and hail. If we hadn't gotten to him in time, he likely would have drowned.""I told him he made it through the worst, and life is only going to get better from here." Liberation Cat HouseIn just a few days of being indoors, Luigi has blossomed into a true lap cat. He adores the company of his people, happily curling up in their laps and kneading contentedly. He's now his foster mom's little shadow, always eager for her affection. Liberation Cat HouseIt took a village to rescue this kitten, and now he's thrived into the most lovable lap cat, spending his days snuggled up and relishing the comforts of indoor life.
