A kitten followed a kind person from room to room when he realized he was no longer alone in the shelter. WaylonNikkiA tiny kitten named Waylon was just three weeks old when he arrived at the municipal shelter, all alone.Staff quickly reached out for help, hoping to find a rescue that could give the little one the care he needed. Nikki, a director at Hearts Alive Village, immediately stepped up. "He was thought to have swimmer's syndrome, but it was so mild that treatment was not needed. He did, however, require around-the-clock bottle feeding," Nikki told Love Meow.The moment she opened the box carrier, she was greeted by a little kitten with the voice of a foghorn wrapped in fur. NikkiWaylon was palm-sized, but his cries filled the room. He wailed with all his might until Nikki soothed him with gentle pets and a soft voice. For such a small kitten, his spirit was unmistakably fierce.After a much-needed bath, he was finally clean, warm, and wrapped snugly in a soft towel. NikkiWaylon took to his bottle as if it were his most prized treasure. "I knew pretty quickly that he was going to be okay because of his ferocious appetite."To keep him company at night, Nikki placed a faux mama cat with a heartbeat in his pen. "Shelters around the country are overflowing with motherless newborn kittens just like Waylon. These kittens are the most vulnerable because they require around-the-clock bottle feeding. If you're on the fence about fostering, now is the time." NikkiTo stay on top of his feeding schedule, Nikki took Waylon everywherework, errands, even the storetucked safely in his cozy carrier. Waylon adored their outings, taking in the world with curious, wide eyes.With good food and attentive care, his stomach troubles eased, and his bold personality began to shine through. NikkiOnce Waylon found his footing, he trotted confidently around the house and demanded food at Nikki's feet, despite having eaten just an hour earlier.He quickly learned that a gentle tap on his foster mom earned instant affection. The pitter-patter of his footsteps echoed through the house as he explored every corner before returning to Nikki's lap to recharge. NikkiWaylon became Nikki's self-appointed assistant, ready to "help" whenever she tackled chores. He stuck to her heels, eager to be involved in everything. "Most bottle babies are pretty attached to people, but he was extra clingy.""He would follow me from room to room. If I opened the fridge, he was right there.
