In pretty much any game with both a fantastical setting and sufficient emphasis on combat, youre almost guaranteed to find some kind of gladiatorial combat arena. Its not that strange; whether for fun, glory, or survival, people just really like beating each other up. Heck, apparently its not just people; bugs also like beating each other up, as we see in Hollow Knight.
