ChatGPT delayed a feature that people shouldnt be allowed to use anyway
ChatGPT has grown a lot in the past few years, with OpenAI releasing several exciting features along the way. ChatGPT can now reason to offer more in-depth answers to questions, and it produces detailed Deep Research reports on any chosen topic. Also impressive is the chatbots ability to generate images and edit photos. Then theres Operator, an AI agent that lets ChatGPT browse the web for you. On top of that, OpenAI has released various models, including preview modes, and further improved the default ChatGPT model that most people use.But theres one AI tool that OpenAI hasnt brought to ChatGPT or released as a separate AI program, despite announcing it more than a year ago. Its called Voice Engine, a piece of AI software that can clone a voice after listening to a single 15-second audio sample.Needless to say, thats an incredibly scary feature to release out in the wild. I warned you about how dangerous it is the minute OpenAI announced it in late March 2024.Voice cloning has abuse written all over it. Im not referring just to malicious actors creating fake audio files by cloning the voices of politicians and celebrities, or hackers trying to swindle you. Im also thinking about the average Joe who might think its fun to clone a friends voice and have them say god knows what.More than a year later, OpenAIs voice cloning tool still isnt widely available in ChatGPT or as a standalone app. Its only accessible to a short list of partners, and theres no telling when OpenAI will release it into the wild.Im hoping that happens in a distant future, one where the larger audience is AI-savvy enough to tell cloned audio from a real voice, or OpenAI and other AI firms develop tech that clearly labels cloned voices as AI-generated.Continue reading...The post ChatGPT delayed a feature that people shouldnt be allowed to use anyway appeared first on BGR.Today's Top Deals67 best cheap Apple deals under $100Todays deals: $399 Mac mini, $289 Nintendo Switch OLED, $24 Red Bull 12-pack, $28 Amazon Echo Pop, moreBest Apple deals for May 2025Todays deals: $399 iPad mini 7th-Gen, $395 75-inch smart TV, $400 eufy Omni C20, Energizer batteries, more

6 rumored iPhone 17 features Apple may have delayed or canceled
Apple is expected to introduce the all-new iPhone 17 lineup with several new features in four months. Over the past year, we've heard several rumors and leaks about these devices. As time went on, though, some reports were revised or debunked. Here are six rumored iPhone 17 features that Apple has likely delayed or canceled entirely.Scratch-resistant displayiPhone 16 and 16 Plus displays. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGRA few months after Samsung introduced an anti-reflective glass display on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a well-known leaker claimedApplewas working on something similar. TheiPhone 16wouldnt get the anti-reflective coating, but the feature was expected to arrive on the iPhone 17 Pro models.Over a year later, a report said Apple scrapped the display upgrade plans for the iPhone 17 Pro. Apparently, the company cant produce enough anti-reflective displays to meet demand.Solid-state buttonsClose-up of the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGRThere's been a persistent rumor that Apple would eventually introduce solid-state buttons to the iPhone, aiming for a portless design. Rumors suggested this might happen with the iPhone 15, then the iPhone 16, but Cupertino has also canceled those plans for the iPhone 17.It's unclear whether Apple is still pursuing this change. Either way, dont expect it to show up this year.Portless designImage source: Jos Adorno for BGRBloomberg reported that Apple had planned to release a portless iPhone 17 Air. But concerns over European Union scrutiny led the company to back away from such a major design change, at least for now.The report said: Apple ultimately decided not to adopt a port-free design with the new iPhone, which will still have a USB-C connector. One major reason: There were concerns that removing USB-C would upset European Union regulators, who mandated the iPhone switch to USB-C and are scrutinizing the companys business practices.iPhone 17 Plus modeliPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus on a table. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGRApple was originally expected to release an iPhone 17 Plus model this year. But rumors now suggest the "Plus" line is ending, with the company instead working on the iPhone 17 Air. This ultra-thin model might offer one of the most appealing design updates in years.iPhone 17 Air with two main lensesiPhone 16 features two cameras on the back. Image source: Jos Adorno for BGREarly rumors about the iPhone 17 Air had analysts expecting two main lenses. But leakers now agree the device will likely feature a single 48MP camera. The reason could be the ultra-thin design, which might not allow space for a second lens.Under-display Face IDA Face ID authentication scan on iPhone. Image source: Jos Adorno for BGRDisplay analyst Ross Young shared Apples iPhone roadmap a few years ago. At the time, he believed under-display Face ID would arrive with the iPhone 17 Pro. Last year, he updated his prediction, saying the feature was delayed to the iPhone 18 Pro.iPhone 17 canceled features wrap upWe still have to wait for Apple to officially unveil the new iPhones, and plans could change. Some of these delayed or canceled features might still make it into the iPhone 17. We'll keep covering the latest rumors as they emerge.Don't Miss: New report corrects leaked iPhone roadmap, but theres bad newsThe post 6 rumored iPhone 17 features Apple may have delayed or canceled appeared first on BGR.Today's Top DealsAmazon deals: 20% off gift cards from Amazon, $553 unlocked iPhone 15, $114 standing desk, moreTodays deals: 20% off gift cards on Amazon, $849 M4 MacBook Air, $500 off Omni S1 Pro, moreTodays deals: $720 Apple Watch Ultra 2, $6.50 Anker fast chargers, $35 2K camera drone, Fitbit sale, moreTodays deals: $399 iPad mini 7th-Gen, $395 75-inch smart TV, $400 eufy Omni C20, Energizer batteries, more

Apples iPhone roadmap shows a shift toward Samsungs strategy, and its not a good look
Over the past few weeks, we've seen reports about Apple's leaked iPhone roadmap. If it's accurate, the company's iPhone lineup is set to look very different after years of sticking to two regular phones and two Pro models. The shift has already started with this year's iPhone 16e release, and it's about to change even more with the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air.These changes are seemingly just the beginning. In 2026, there are (mixed) reports that Apple will launch the new iPhone 17e, followed later that year by the iPhone 18 Pro models, iPhone 18 Air, and the iPhone Fold. Then, in early 2027, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18e and standard iPhone 18. By the end of that year, we'll likely see the iPhone Foldable 2, iPhone 19 Pro models, a larger-screen iPhone 19 Air, and a special 20th-anniversary iPhone, which probably won't be named iPhone 19, just like Apple once skipped the iPhone 9.Heres the leaked iPhone roadmap that Ming-Chi Kuo and The Information expect Apple to follow:2H25: iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 171H26: iPhone 17e2H26: iPhone Foldable, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Slim1H27: iPhone 18, iPhone 18e2H27: iPhone Foldable 2 (already in development), iPhone 19 Pro Max, iPhone 19 Pro, iPhone 19 Slim (with a larger display than the 18 Slim)My concerns about the iPhone roadmapThe back of Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Image source: Christian de Looper for BGRThe leaked iPhone roadmap points to Apple shifting to a six-month release cycle. The first-half releases are expected to be the more affordable models, while the second-half launches will be a bit more premium and possibly harder to choose between.I'm an iPhone Pro Max kind of person. I like the bigger display, battery, and top-tier features. But if I want something new this year, Id have to trade off those extras for the iPhone 17 Air.Looking ahead to 2027, Im pretty sure the iPhone 18 Pro Max will outperform the iPhone Fold or the second-gen iPhone 18 Air. Still, those devices will probably be more exciting, especially since the Fold will be Apples first real attempt at a foldable phone. It feels like Apple is heading toward a Samsung-style strategy, with more phone options that are fairly similar but make it harder to get everything in one device. Right now, I can still get it all with a Pro Max. Soon, though, Ill have to decide between the safest bet and the flashiest new tech.Given what Apple charges, I think it's reasonable to want everything in one device, just like I can get with a MacBook Pro, AirPods Pro, or iPad Pro. Sadly, Apple's smartphone lineup is changing fast, and it looks like the iPhone lineup is going to be more fragmented than everand not in a good way.Don't Miss: The first rumored breakthrough feature of the iPhone 20 just leakedThe post Apples iPhone roadmap shows a shift toward Samsungs strategy, and its not a good look appeared first on BGR.Today's Top DealsTodays deals: $399 iPad mini 7th-Gen, $395 75-inch smart TV, $400 eufy Omni C20, Energizer batteries, moreAmazon gift card deals, offers & coupons 2025: Get $400+ freeTodays deals: $299 iPad 11th-Gen, $249 Bose ANC headphones, $378 smart toilet, ASUS gaming laptops, moreTodays deals: $99 AirPods 4, $50 TP-Link WiFi 6 router, $279 3D printer, $200 Toshiba smart TV, more
