This $229 Asus gaming monitor deal is amazing for a 240Hz Nvidia G-Sync screen

We've just spotted a genuinely outstanding gaming monitor deal on Amazon, where you can grab a 27-inch Asus screen with all the gaming features you could want for just $229. That's this monitor's cheapest ever price on Amazon, and it saves you a massive $100 off the usual MSRP. Amazingly, every key specs box is ticked by this bargain monitor, from a high refresh rate to support for Nvidia G-Sync and Asus' clever ELMB tech to reduce ghosting.

We tested the latter in our Asus VG27AQ review, and found that it works remarkably well. ELMB stands for extreme low motion blur, and it rapidly strobes the backlight on and off between frames, dramatically reducing any motion blur or ghosting in between the frames, resulting in much sharper-looking motion. The Asus monitor in this deal is the later VG27AQM1A, which offers the same resolution, screen size, and panel tech, but with a much faster refresh rate. It's an absolute bargain for the specs on offer.

Let's start with its official Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, which enables the monitor to synchronize its refresh rate with your graphics card's frame rate, meaning you don't get any nasty tearing and stuttering problems. The monitor also supports AMD FreeSync Premium, meaning you can get the same benefit if you use an AMD GPU.

Both FreeSync and G-Sync are supported up to a refresh rate of 240Hz, which is all that most gamers will ever need in terms of pace, although there's also the option to run the monitor with an overclocked refresh rate up to 260Hz. Meanwhile, the 2,560 x 1,440 resolution is ideal for the 27-inch panel size, resulting in a much sharper pixel density than a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, but not requiring the huge graphical horsepower that it takes to run games at 4K.

It's great to see Asus using an IPS panel here too. In our tests, we've found that IPS panels are much more responsive than rival VA screens, and often provide superior color accuracy and viewing angles too. As you can see in our IPS vs VA feature, IPS screens are ideal for fast-paced first-person shooters, while VA screens are often better-suited to single-player cinematic games, thanks to their higher contrast and deeper blacks. When it comes to gaming on an LCD screen, we generally find that IPS panels offer the best all-round balance of performance and image quality.

Best of all, though, is that price. You can currently pick up this fully-featured gaming monitor for just $229 on Amazon right now. That's a genuine bargain for the spec on offer, although you'll need to be quick as it's listed as a limited-time deal.
