Cronos The New Dawn gets hefty discount just days after launch
Although Bloober Team has had its fair share of misses, last year's Silent Hill 2 remake proved that the developer is more than capable of delivering a great horror game. Despite polishing up an iconic gem, its latest spook fest is a new IP, one that showcases everything it's learned from Silent Hill 2 - as well as the genre in general - and Cronos: The New Dawn is all the better for it. Just in time for the spookiest period of the year, Bloober Team's newest game is at a great discount, so now's the time to scare yourself silly.
All of the best horror games have a few familiar traits. Tense atmosphere? Check. Fright or flight encounters? Also check. While Cronos: The New Dawn certainly taps into these tropes, it's also bringing some new tricks to the table.
Offering brutalist sci-fi aesthetics, you play as the Traveler. Thrust into a post-apocalyptic wasteland of the future, you're tasked traveling back in time to 1980s Poland to uncover the story of what lead to humanity's downfall.
In your way are mutated humans called 'Orphans,' and you don't have a lot of resources to handle them. It's all about planning ahead, and, if these enemies aren't burned to a crisp posthumously, surviving Orphans can merge with other corpses, creating even deadlier variants.
Everything from the tense combat scenarios to the limited ammunition makes Cronos a true survival horror experience, where any and every encounter with enemies could be leathal. Every combat situation is as much of a puzzle as, well, the actual puzzles, forcing you to not only prepare but also work quickly in unforgiving situations. That's where Cronos's grisly, broken world truly stands out.
If all of that has you intrigued, I've got good news for you, as Cronos is already $47.99 / £39.99 over on Fanatical. That's a huge 20% discount off the retail price just days after launch.
