This speedy Samsung gaming SSD is an absolute bargain for just $69.99 right now

If you're desperately running out of storage space for your favorite games, but you don't have masses of money to spend, then this Samsung gaming SSD deal is a great answer. For just $69.99, you can pick up the Samsung 990 Evo Plus, one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 drives out there, with a 1TB storage capacity, while saving a whopping 33% on its MSRP.

Samsung is one of the biggest brands in the world, but it's also a big name in storage manufacturing, and we've recommended a number of its drives in our best gaming SSD guide in recent years. This Samsung 990 Evo Plus drive is faster than a number of those entries, too, including the Samsung 980 Pro, making it an absolute bargain at this price.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus features top sequential read speeds of 7,150MB/s and sequential write speeds of 6,300MB/s. That means it's only a touch slower than the WD Black SN850X. As our WD Black SN850X review explains, that drive has read and write speeds of 7,300MB/s and 6,600MB/s each, but it also comes with a higher price tag.

Technically, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus supports PCIe 5.0, but that's only a formality. It can only use two PCIe lanes while installed in a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, capping the bandwidth to just 8GB/s. That's the same speed you'll see in a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot over four lanes, so there's no speed advantage for PCIe 5.0 support here.

That bit of a marketing fudge aside doesn't take away from what you'll be getting with the Samsung 990 Evo Plus, though, especially if you're upgrading a system that only supports PCIe 4.0 speeds.
