A Game About Digging a Hole has a hot new co-op rival, because of course it does

There are always unexpected successes in videogames. In past years, we've seen everything from Balatro and Lethal Company to Vampire Survivors and Helldivers 2 launch to far more buzz than anyone could have foreseen. One of this year's surprise hits is A Game About Digging a Hole, which, as its name suggests, channels the apparently innate human need to burrow underground into a digital experience whose execution of a simple concept has made it a million-seller. Now, as is always the case, a rival game has emerged to follow up on A Game About Digging a Hole's success. It's called Keep Digging, and it's just launched on Steam.

Keep Digging is basically the same kind of literal sandbox game as its inspiration, only it allows you to play as part of a crew of enthusiastic dirt chuckers, controlled either by AI or up to seven other real people. The goal, naturally, is to dig as deep as possible, finding the materials necessary to upgrade gear, like shovels, ropes, and dynamite, and continue delving further into the earth.

There are some wrinkles to A Game About Digging a Hole's formula in Keep Digging, like character creation features and a system that sees NPC companions working to keep mining even when you aren't playing. So far, its reception has been fairly warm. On Steam, Keep Digging has a 77% or 'Mostly Positive' user score, though some players have noted performance issues and a poor player invite system.

If you want to try it for yourself, Keep Digging is out now on Steam, with a 10% launch discount that brings its price down to $4.49 USD / £3.86. Grab a copy right here.
