Borderlands 4 enhancements explained

What are Borderlands 4 enhancements? These handy items buff your vault hunter's abilities, providing even more ways to tweak their skills to your liking. There are dozens to choose from, and while they all offer their own benefits, some will clearly be more helpful than others depending on your class and playstyle.

We're going to run through how enhancements work and detail some of the best ones we've seen in Borderlands 4 so far. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, you'll first want to be sure you've picked the right Borderlands 4 character for you, and that you're prepared for the toughest fights ahead by perusing our complete Borderlands 4 bosses list.

Borderlands 4's enhancements are collectible items that provide handy buffs. They're separated by gun manufacturers, such as Daedalus and Hyperion, and often have three components: licensed-part enhancement, a stat bonus, and a bonus ability.

The licensed-part aspect adds extra abilities as long as your gun's manufacturer matches the enhancement's manufacturer. The stat bonus includes various percentage bonuses to traits like gun reload speed or accuracy. Then there are bonus abilities, which you won't get in every case. They also aren't exclusive to enhancements, as you can find them on ordinances and other items, too.

Certain licensed-part buffs are tied to specific manufacturers, so if you get a Daedalus enhancement, it could have the Accelerator buff, which gives Daedalus-licensed parts a +1 fire rate per bullet fired, stacking up to 50 times and resetting on reload. Another example is the Stabilizer buff, which grants guns with Hyperion-licensed parts a +40 accuracy boost.

Licensed-part buffs can vary between enhancements and, like all of Borderlands 4's equipment, are random. So whatever buffs, stat bonuses, or abilities you receive for your enhancements is up to the almighty procedurally generated algorithm.

Borderlands 4 enhancement rarity explained

Like weapons and shields, enhancements come in common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary forms. The rarer the enhancement, the more stat bonuses they have. For example, uncommon enhancements have only one stat bonus, rare offers two, epic has three, and legendaries can have even more.

And that's everything you need to know about Borderlands 4 enhancements. We've also got a regularly updated list of Borderlands 4 codes for freebies, plus a guide on how Borderlands 4 crossplay works. If you're hunting for top-tier guns, give our Borderlands 4 legendary weapons guide a look, too.
