Arknights Endfield prepares to fight for Genshin Impact's crown, but not in 2025

Rolling in base-building elements and a full-team battle system, Arknights: Endfield promises to shake up the formula seen in gacha rivals such as Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. That alone makes me eager to see how it lands, but then it's also got the extensive Arknights universe established by its main, tactics-led sister title to play around with. Unfortunately, any hopes of a possible 2025 release have just been dashed, as publisher Gryphline confirms that we won't get our hands on the full thing until at least next year.

Perhaps it shouldn't be too surprising that the Arknights: Endfield release date won't make the cut for 2025. While there was loose speculation we'd see it this year, especially given its February beta test, Gryphline outlined some pretty comprehensive changes it was planning in response to player feedback. Competition among the best gacha games is tough, so ensuring a strong launch will be a significant factor in Endfield's potential for success.

Arknights: Endfield adopts a more outwardly team-based combat system than many of its rivals. All of your characters take to the field at once, ramping up the potential for attack synergies and coordinated follow-ups. The AIC Factory, meanwhile, adds in various building game systems. You're able to gradually construct your very own super-facility capable of churning out everything from components to character equipment, transforming the traditional gacha farm into something entirely new.

Since the beta, however, pretty much every aspect has been under the microscope. The combat and building elements are both slated for expansion and refinement, along with enhancements to the story, script, art and animation, and overall performance and optimization. Hopefully, that results in one of the best open-world games of its type, and an experience worthy of the Arknights name, but it does mean we'll be waiting until next year.
