All Borderlands 4 bosses and how to beat them

What are the Borderlands 4 bosses? You'll find plenty of bosses around Kairos, encountering them in most of the game's story missions. The Timekeeper's minions consist of a group called The Order, which act as the game's main story bosses. While some of the mini-bosses can be more challenging, bosses that are introduced by fancy title cards are the ones you'll need to beat to progress through the story.

We've put together a list of all bosses in Borderlands 4, their location, and some tips on how to beat them. Hopefully, you'll find some of the Borderlands 4 legendary weapons as you defeat them, and you can check out our guide on the best Borderlands 4 class if you're struggling with any of the fights in the sequel to one of the best FPS games.

You will encounter 13 bosses during a playthrough of the Borderlands 4 campaign. They are:

  • Spymaster Horace
  • The Opressor
  • Bio-Bulkhead
  • Idolator Sol
  • Skyspanner Kratch
  • Vile Prototype
  • Vile Lictor
  • Driller Hole
  • Callus the Ripper Queen
  • Moon-Maddened Callis
  • The Timekeeper
  • Primordial Guardian Time Keeper
  • Arjay

Shooting at Horace the Spymaster in Borderlands 4.

Spymaster Horace

  • Mission: Down and Outbound
  • Location: Horace's Oversight

As the first boss you'll face Spymaster Horace isn't anything special. During his first phase, he'll float around and shoot at you in bursts. But in his second phase, after he's down to one health bar, he'll start chasing you down with a scythe. Just side-step his attacks when he swings, and you should be fine to spray him down with your bullets without much trouble.

Fighting the Opressor in Borderlands 4.

The Opressor

  • Mission: A Lot to Process
  • Location: The Killing Floors

The Oppressor can be quite hard to beat because, frankly, it hits really hard. It'll fly around, but its weakness is the little green glowing area you can see on its underside, so aim for that. Otherwise, it doesn't have many tricks up its sleeve. There are some minions that appear every once in a while, so if you get downed, you might have trouble getting a Second Wind if you don't see one.

Fighting bio bulkhead in Borderlands 4.

Bio-Bulkhead

  • Mission: One Fell Swoop
  • Location: Dissected Plateau

In this fight, you'll need to grab the corrosive barrels with your grappling hook and aim them at the boss to melt away its invulnerability. There are two pillars at the end of the arena, which you can use as cover for moments of reprieve. Overall, this fight isn't hard, and while there are some minions, they're easy to kill and can be used as Second Wind fodder.

Idolator Sol in Borderlands 4.

Idolator Sol

  • Mission: Rush the Gate
  • Location: Fortress Indomita

Idolator Sol is the first member of The Order you'll fight. Like Bio-Bulkhead, Sol has invulnerability, and you'll need to use your grappling hook to grab these green rods he puts down and throw them at him, making him vulnerable to your attacks. This one isn't that hard, but it can be a battle of attrition due to his invulnerability mechanic.

Shooting at Skyspanner Kratch in Borderlands 4.

Skyspanner Kratch

  • Mission: Shadow of the Mountain
  • Location: Cuspid Climb

Skyspanner Kratch can be annoying, just as all aerial enemies are, but it's big enough that, as a huge target, your shots aren't likely to miss. It'll summon some bat balloon minion monsters that can be used as Second Wind fodder. However, make every shot count. For some reason, there's barely any extra ammo in the arena, so don't be wasteful.

Fighting the vile prototype boss in Borderlands 4.

Vile Prototype

  • Mission: Dark Subject
  • Location: Lictor's Black Site

Here, you'll have to shoot the crystals on the Vile Prototype's back, then a floating pink orb will revolve around it. You'll need to shoot it to deplete its HP permanently; otherwise, after a certain amount of time, it'll form back into a crystal and you'll have to do the process over again. You'll have Amara and her pet as NPC allies during this fight, so it shouldn't be too hard as long as they draw attention away from you.

The Vile Lictor intro screen in Borderlands 4.

Vile Lictor

  • Mission: His Vile Sanctum
  • Location: Umbral Foundry

During this fight, Lictor will have four arms you'll need to shoot in order to open up his core. However, each arm corresponds to a different part of the core, and you don't have to shoot all four to have a shot at the core. Just shooting one arm and then opening up the top right of his core should be enough before you just unleash as many bullets as you can. This way, you'll reserve ammo too.

Fighting the Driller Hole in Borderlands 4.

Driller Hole

  • Mission: Unpaid Tab
  • Location: Queen's Cradle

Driller Hole can actually be quite tough, as his corrosive attacks can do a ton of damage. But there's a giant structure you can run around to avoid him before peeking out every once in a while to shoot at him. Minions constantly spawn, which can be really annoying, but they're weak and easy to kill, plus they're useful for Second Wind bait if needed.

Callis the ripper queen in Borderlands 4.

Callis the Ripper Queen

  • Mission: Her Flaming Vision
  • Location: Moon-Called Throne

This one is quite easy, just avoid the red bombs Callis spits out onto the battlefield. There's plenty of space to move around, so you shouldn't have an issue. The bombs can also be destroyed for a Second Wind in case you get downed. There's not much else to say here.

The ripper queen's intro screen in Borderlands 4.

Moon-Maddened Callis

  • Mission: Another Day, Another Universe
  • Location: Elpis Orbital Shatterfield

This fight can be tough because you have much more limited space to move around compared to your last encounter with her. After all, you're literally fighting on a rock. Her most dangerous attack is when she summons a giant spider wireframe onto the field. Don't jump, and you should be okay to wait out the attack while you take down the minions underneath her.

The timekeeper's intro screen in Borderlands 4.

The Timekeeper

  • Mission: The Timekeeper's Order
  • Location: Upper Dominion

Here we are, supposedly the final boss of the game, the Timekeeper. Honestly, he's a little too easy as his attacks are super slow. Just shuffle to the side when he tries to rush you with his light triangle attack, and avoid the lasers on the ground that he shoots out. You really shouldn't have too much trouble with this fight.

The primordial guardian timekeeper's intro screen in Borderlands 4.

Primordial Guardian Time Keeper

  • Mission: The Timekeeper's Order
  • Location: Upper Dominion

Oh, you thought you were done? Well, you're not. Of course, the final boss has a second form. His attacks are relatively easy to dodge, but when he's down to his last two health bars, he'll cover the field with light. To keep yourself from being hurt by standing on the ground, you must grapple onto the pyramids in the air and continually move between them to avoid his attacks.

Arjay's splash intro screen in Borderlands 4.

Arjay

  • Mission: Secrets of the Vault
  • Location: Upper Dominion

You're still not done yet! Arjay has been conspicuously missing for the entire game. Well, here he is. Arjay will often summon pink tornado geysers around the battlefield. They're easy to dodge as long as you can simply move around them. When he goes haywire and starts summoning many of them at a time, just shoot him a few times to knock him out of his frenzy. Sometimes he can lock you in place, but just shoot the little battle that's conjuring up the spell, and you should go free.

And those are all the bosses you'll face during Borderlands 4's story. If you're struggling with any of them, check out the best Vex build, the best Harlowe build, the best Rafa build, and the best Amon build to see if you can improve your chances.
