Battlefield 6 is testing the "deadliest" battle royale ever, and I can't wait

I'll play almost any game, but there's one genre I keep coming back to: battle royale. I started with PUBG and Fortnite, before graduating to Apex Legends' hero shooter spin on the action as soon as it was released. As the world's biggest Titanfall 2 stan, it was perfect. Despite many changes, I still jump in for a few ranked matches every now and then. However, this too might be replaced, as Battlefield 6's battle royale mode sounds like it could be the most fun yet. Developer Battlefield Studios describes it as "the deadliest ring in BR," and I've suddenly got shivers running up my spine.

The mode, which will be tested in Battlefield Labs soon, brings Battlefield 6's iconic DNA to a free-for-all setting. That's nothing new for the series, but the game's spin on the ever-encroaching zone instantly put a smile on my face.

If you want to create the best battle royale game in the year of our lord 2025, you need to do something different. And a zone that "instantly kills players upon contact" could be just the ticket. I'm no stranger to rotating through the ring when times get tough. In the early stages of matches, it's practically free, especially if you have a support character in your squad or enough bandages to fill a hospital.

But a ring that is actually dangerous provides so much more exhilaration and so many opportunities for clever tactical play. And there was me thinking that BR's deadliest ring was Peely's the morning after a curry.

Add to this a bespoke map, armored vehicles, and Battlefield's patented tactical destruction mechanics, and you've got a hell of a pitch for a battle royale. Load up Labs, pick your class, and light a fire under your ass. The ring's coming for you, and you better not get caught.

You can check out Battlefield 6's battle royale mode soon in Battlefield Labs. You can sign up for the test server here.

This news, has made me more excited for the Battlefield 6 release date than any beta or gunplay. Just make sure your PC hits the Battlefield 6 system requirements, because I feel like all the explosions could take their toll on performance.
