Before Requiem, catch up on the Resident Evil remakes at their lowest price yet

If you asked a random person to name a horror game franchise, I reckon Resident Evil is the series they'd be most likely to mention. The long-running series has been terrifying fans for almost three decades, and now that some of the older games have been remade for the modern era, there's a perfect excuse to dive back into these classics or try them for the first time - especially while they are available at their lowest price yet. They're the perfect appetiser before Halloween and 2026's Resident Evil Requiem.

There's a good reason that practically every list of the best horror games written in the last 30 years has featured at least one Resident Evil game. It's not just the intense, action-packed combat with limited resources, but the tension and atmosphere, with characters facing challenging situations that few could survive. After all this time, it's a series that remains as consistently horrific as ever.

The remake trilogy comprises Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and the brilliant Resident Evil 4 Remake, all of which completely overhaul the classic games for modern platforms and bring plenty of quality-of-life upgrades too. No more fighting with the tank controls, thankfully. However, the narratives haven't changed at all, keeping the original themes and plot intact. There are minor changes, but they only add to the experience of each game.

Leon and Claire's dangerous journey through the apocalyptic streets of Raccoon City feels as harrowing as it did back in 1998, while the horrifying appearance of Nemesis in the Resident Evil 3 remake still makes me tense up in fear. However, all of Capcom's improvements and knowledge of the series is pushed to the limit with the brilliant Resident Evil 4 Remake, which brings Leon back into the spotlight for the series' best entry.

It's no surprise that, in our Resident Evil 4 Remake review, Ed Smith said that it "improves on the visuals, mechanics, and moment-to-moment experience of one of the best games ever made," making it the definitive version to play. While I did enjoy going face-to-face with the game's cultish enemies in the VR version of Resident Evil 4, the remake's splash of paint and tighter controls make it the greatest way to play this classic.

If you're hoping to scare yourself silly over the Halloween period while you wait for the Resident Evil Requiem release date, well, you can grab the Resident Evil Remake Trilogy for just $40.49 / £33.74 at Humble Bundle. That's the lowest price the collection has been, making today the ideal time to grab them. The only issue? You'll want to play Resident Evil 7 and Village straight after, and I can't blame you.
