Steam finally adds crucial accessibility options, but it might break completely

As Steam client updates go, this is a biggie. Valve has reeled off a list of nearly 100 bugs or performance issues that have been fixed on desktop, as well as 50 fixes for Steam Deck users. Most of these are niche cases, fixing fonts for players with a DPI of over 100% or ensuring those who use an 8BitDo controller see the right logo in big picture mode. However, it's also added some crucial accessibility options that are long overdue, but multiple users are also noticing that the update has caused the desktop app to start randomly mutating.

In this update, Valve has added a whole accessibility settings menu to desktop mode. The features therein include high contrast mode, which is important for visually impaired or color blind players, reduced motion settings for those who need it, and UI scale controls so that everyone can customize the Steam desktop app however they wish.

It has also added accessibility annotations to many UI components, although that wording suggests that some remain unannotated. Hopefully these changes make it easier to play your favorite games, whether you're a fan of the best horror games or a slow-burn narrative RPG.

However, a few players have noticed problems with the Steam desktop app since the update. They've found that the app randomly resizes, pulling its border to the right. It's currently unclear what is causing the issue, as players can't agree.

One player suggests unplugging all your peripherals, as that had fixed the problem for them. Another is just coping with the unusual mutation by keeping Steam maximized or using big picture mode while windowed. Another user, who uploaded a video of the issue to Reddit, believes that an app called WindowBlinds 11 was the root of the issue, and that the customization tool doesn't play nice with the new patch.

It's unclear exactly what the problem is at present, but the majority of players are unaffected. With the number of bugs fixed-and accessibility features added-this update was bound to cause a couple of issues, but the mutating desktop app is unexpected to say the least.
