A new Intel gaming GPU looks set to launch, and it might just be good

A new shipping manifest suggests that a brand-new Intel GPU is being readied for release. Hints that a new Battlemage Intel Arc B770 gaming graphics card is in development have been circulating for some time, but this new manifest appears to reveal the existence of physical packaging, referencing the BMG-G31 codename we've seen used elsewhere.

Although earlier Intel Battlemage rumors suggested that Intel had given up on this GPU, we've seen plenty of rumors since to suggest otherwise, and a straight-up replacement for the Intel Arc A770 could be a particularly powerful entry into the market. If such a card exists, however, it'll need to be priced low enough to compete with the latest Nvidia and AMD GPUs in our best graphics card guide.

Intel G31 shipping manifest data

This new manifest was spotted by regular tech leaker Haze2K1, and shared more widely in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The manifest, which we've confirmed exists ourselves, references "G31/C32," as well as "Intel VGA C32." The G31 reference is one that we've seen elsewhere in several Intel Battlemage rumors over the past year, including this Intel Battlemage G31 manifest back in April, which was also spotted by Haze2K1 at the time.

Another X commentator also revealed a link to the launch of the Intel Arc B580, the last Intel GPU to launch. According to that post, shipping manifests for Intel product packaging, with similar wording to those shown above, were spotted "around 2.5 months" before that card did eventually launch.

If Intel is working to similar timescales here, that could mean this new card is ready to launch in a matter of weeks, given that these shipping manifests date back to May and June. That's just speculation, however, so take it with a big grain of salt for now.

Intel hasn't confirmed any speculation that the company is working on a new Battlemage graphics card for gamers at all, let alone confirmed the timescale for any potential launch. If this is the Intel Arc B770, however, then it could be a seriously interesting GPU for gamers to consider, as it would be the Arc A770 replacement.

That GPU, as our Intel Arc A770 review explains, offered pretty competitive performance against AMD and Nvidia equivalents at the time, although initial driver support made it tricky to use in plenty of games at launch. However, its 16GB VRAM capacity made it a powerful contender against 8GB budget cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, allowing you to use features like ray tracing at 1440p for a sub-$400 launch price.

If Intel is cooking up an even better B770 to replace it, set to face off against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, it could be in for a winner. Intel will win or lose on how well it performs in games, but only if it gets the pricing right, especially as the RX 9060 XT, our favorite budget GPU right now, costs just $349 for the 16GB card.

We'll be keen to put any new Intel graphics cards through a thorough test when they launch. Until then, make sure you check out our best gaming PC guide for pre-built rigs featuring powerful graphics cards, which you can pick up right now without the wait.
