Cult of the Lamb DLC Woolhaven is "almost longer" than the base game

The new Cult of the Lamb DLC, Woolhaven, is so large it almost eclipses the base game, according to developer Massive Monster. The cute-but-concerning action roguelike about building a community of fanatical worshippers is set to get a major expansion in early 2026, bringing a wintery tinge to proceedings. It whisks us to a new region in search of the history of the lambs, introduces two corrupted dungeons, adds ranching to your base, and apparently it's going to be especially beefy.

"Why would a game studio make a DLC that's almost longer than the original game?" That's the question the Cult of the Lamb dev poses in a new YouTube short and Tiktok. "I don't know, I think we flew a little too close to the sun here - we tend to go all out" is the answer. Not content with delivering one of the best roguelikes in recent years, the studio points to the three bulky, free updates it's unleashed so far: Relics of the Old Faith, Sins of the Flesh, and Unholy Alliance.

"This DLC is not free, but I promise you'll love it," the developer continues. "It's called Woolhaven, it's coming out early next year." The expansion will take you to the eponymous '"lost home of the lambs," now little more than an echo. You'll have to brave harsh, wintery conditions including freezing temperatures and raging blizzards, requiring new ways to provide warmth and safety for your followers. Ranching will allow you to breed creatures for wool that can help stave off the ever-present threat of frostbite.

Combat-wise, there are two "vast" dungeons to uncover, each playing host to numerous creatures infested with curses and rot. "Upon the frozen summit, a wolf prowls," Massive Monster teases. "His pack hungers for war with the covetous gods. Deep within the hidden caverns, a familiar shadowy figure waits, blade honed and patience fraying."
