Nvidia is reportedly planning to cease production of its GeForce RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti graphics cards as soon as October 2025, apparently to make way for its new lineup of "Super" graphics cards based on the Blackwell architecture. The new Nvidia GeForce cards are expected to offer 50% more VRAM than the current cards, with the core GPU specs remaining the same.

As I found in my recent Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti review, this GPU is already a very strong offering from Nvidia, making it my favorite 1440p option in our guide to buying the best graphics card. However, it has some hot competition from the cheaper AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, which has the same amount of memory, but a new 24GB version of the card at the same price could give AMD some trouble.

This latest rumor comes from the stable of YouTube tech leaker Moore's Law is Dead (MLID), so bear in mind that none of this has been officially confirmed by Nvidia. In his latest video, which you can see below, MLID reiterates a lot of the specs we've already seen for the rumored new Super GPUs, but he also reveals that, according to his sources, Nvidia is planning to pull the plug on two of its current GPUs in just a few weeks.

"Probably the most exciting thing I was told is that Nvidia plans to EOL the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti in October," says MLID, where "EOL" stands for "end of life." Of course, products would still be on the shelves for a little while after production is halted, assuming this rumor is true, but as we saw with RTX 4090 and 4080 stock after the RTX 5090 and 5080 launch earlier this year, they may not be around for very long at all.

"This directly points to Nvidia wanting to offer more than 16GB consistently above the $550 pricing level," says MLID, who also states that production of the RTX 5070 12GB is still going to carry on. It may possibly drop in price, though, while the new RTX 5070 Super 18GB occupies the $549 spot, as we saw with the RTX 4070 price after the 4070 Super was released.

MLID also reveals the rumored specs of the three new Super GPUs, according to his sources, which largely correlate with previous RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super leaks. The RTX 5080 Super and 5070 Ti are expected to maintain the same number of CUDA cores as their predecessors but offer more memory. However, MLID also suggests that the RTX 5080 Super may have much faster VRAM, running at up to 36Gbps compared to 30Gbps on the current RTX 5080.

Previous rumors had put the 5080 Super's memory speed at 32Gbps, but MLID says that it's possible Nvidia will delay the launch from the end of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026 in order to increase the memory frequency. The new VRAM is "so fast, they couldn't get it until early next year," says MLID. Of course, bear in mind that Nvidia hasn't officially announced the existence of any Super GPUs, let alone a release date, so any talk of "delays" here is purely based on rumor.

Otherwise, all three GPUs are expected to launch in Q4 2025, which means any time between the start of October and the end of December. Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see whether any of the above is true, but Nvidia's latest GPUs have come in for a lot of criticism for not having enough VRAM, including in my RTX 5070 review, so it would make sense for the company to refresh these products with more memory.
