New Last Epoch patch makes the ARPG's powerful primordial uniques easier to get

The new set of Last Epoch patch notes bring some welcome changes to the ARPG, as Eleventh Hour Games continues to build on its excellent third season. It's hard to find space for all these great loot-chasing games, with Path of Exile 2's Abyssal league underway and the recent early access launch of Titan Quest 2. I'm therefore grateful for any ways to squeeze the most out of my time, and this Last Epoch update does just that, making it easier to get your hands on Season 3's most enticing drops.

PoE 2's biggest update has just launched, and it's a resounding success so far, but that doesn't mean you should forget about Last Epoch. Indeed, if you're looking to start a new game in the Diablo mold right now, I'd still recommend it as the more complete action RPG of the pair while Path of Exile 2's early access rolls on. The new season, Beneath Ancient Skies, is both a great time to jump on board and an excellent reason to return, and its latest patch makes some of its best gear more readily accessible.

Rift Beasts are at the center of the action right now. This evolving foe gets stronger each time you bring it down, and hunting it is a key part of snagging the most powerful loot in Last Epoch's third season. Dubbed 'primordial' gear, it boasts even stronger affixes than you'll find on regular weapons and armor.

Until now, a lot of the primordial uniques were only available by purchasing them from Wengari Hunt Master Skarven Bloodthorn, which made them a little less exciting to discover. Now, however, they're all able to drop from Rift Beasts, with the chance scaling up as you stack up evolutions. You can further increase this through endgame corruption and aligning yourself with the Circle of Fortune, making them a lot easier to farm.

To further help you track down the Rift Beasts, you'll now get a message in chat when you enter a zone that has a mysterious or torn rift in the area, letting you know it's worth poking around into every corner. If you manage to snag the new Evolution's End amulet, which summons a defeated Rift Beast to fight alongside you, it'll now display the modifiers that you've earned.

The update also introduces several balance changes and quality-of-life upgrades. When you teleport into The Garden, you'll now have a return portal to take you back where you came from. The Primalist's scorpion summon can now also use the Avalanche boulders created by Reverberating Strike to trigger the Crater earthquakes and Rockfall stun effect if you have points spent in the Avalanche tree.

Primordial materials have been given new visuals to display them more clearly on the ground and the minimap, as have several other currency items. The order primordial materials are shown in tooltips and Skarven Bloodthorn' shop has been reordered so it now correctly matches the way they're stored in your inventory. If you get damaged while in a full-screen menu, a new audio cue will play to let you know you're in danger.

Alongside this comes a range of bug fixes, including adjustments to several skills. Totems should now correctly target spires when playing online, Ring of Shields won't consume more charges than it should, and Aura of Decay will accurately display its radius when attached to enemies. If you're playing in offline mode, spending a key to respawn when in dungeons will no longer occasionally surprise you by dropping back in town instead.
