You can finally play Star Trucker with your truck sim rig in anniversary update

There's something so satisfying about a truck simulator. The rumble of the engine beneath your fingers, the open landscapes sliding on by as you ease on the throttle to take a corner. I've often dabbled in the genre, but Star Trucker is the only one to fully grab my attention. What can I say? I prefer the vast expanse of the entire galaxy than the same old American highways, sue me. However, the space trucking sim's only downfall was that I had to use a controller rather than my wheel and pedals setup. Thankfully, that's all changed in the game's first anniversary update, and I couldn't be happier.

Developer Monster and Monster has done the most for Star Trucker in its first year. It has added radio stations, license plates, parking tickets, seasonal holograms, and more over the first 12 months, and the anniversary update isn't stopping there.

The most exciting addition in this update to one of the best space games around is peripherals. Yes, you can now use a proper truck sim rig in (Tim Curry voice) SPACE! Monster and Monster confirms that you can play with multiple connected devices, including joysticks, throttles, wheels, and pedals.

It's worth noting that this is a tiny team that's done its best, so it's worth cutting Monster and Monster some slack if your specific combination of peripherals doesn't work correctly. There's also a Google submission form linked on the dev blog so you can give them feedback directly.

Another new addition to the game is speed traps, the bane of any interstellar trucker's existence. Trigger enough of them with reckless driving and you'll unlock a new cop-based paintjob for your cab, or some wicked hot rod flames. I know which I'm choosing.

As well as a lovely cake hologram for your truck, Monster and Monster details what's coming up on the road ahead. The much-requested Job Generator will roll out in the next major update. A cargo pack DLC will roll out alongside the Business Venture update, which is now in full development and will include a new NPC and unique rewards. There's, of course, interior customization on the way, too, which we can expect around the same time.

There's never been a better time to earn your keep truckin' among the stars. I just hope the developer doesn't implement Speed Awareness Courses if you trip too many speed traps.
