Stalcraft X, the survival MMO that began life as a Minecraft nod, can be unsettling at the best of times. It's essentially a blocky Stalker, set in a wasteland where there's no real law, but there are plenty of flesh-shredding anomalies and hungry mutants. Even without those hazards, there's the risk of hypothermia and other environmental hazards. Now, developer Exbo is teasing a new update which promises to dial its fear factor up to 11.
Playing Stalcraft X, we've never once thought it needed to be more disturbing, but this survival MMO game's latest teaser trailer confirms more frights are on the way. The new update/season is dubbed Horrors of the Zone and while short, it's given us the chills.
Why? Because, while details are sparse, it suggests that you'll either be taking on some kind of new teleporting foe, or players will be gaining the ability to teleport. We can't decide which is more disturbing.
"New trials and unknown dangers lie ahead. In the shadows, strange figures stir, as if the Zone itself was watching every step. Who can say what secrets lurk in the dark," developer Exbo warns.
The trailer suggests there'll be a full announcement tomorrow. Could this spooky Stalcraft X update be a reason to dive back into the game? Hopefully so, because it could benefit from a shot in the arm.
Why? Stalcraft X's Steam reviews are currently sitting at Mixed and have been for some time. There are complaints about nerfing, changes that negatively impact the game and some even accuse it of being pay to win. You'll die a lot playing Stalcraft X, but it sounds as if frustration is building up amongst the game's playerbase.
We have our fingers crossed this update takes Stalcraft X in the right direction. In the meantime, why not investigate the best apocalyptic games or, if you want an even bigger fright, the best horror games.
