I didn't play Planescape Torment when it originally released. My excuse? I was about five years old and more interested in eating grass or something. But I played the Enhanced Edition that released in 2017, and instantly realized why this game is considered a classic in certain circles. However, the game never received any official DLC. Despite this (or maybe due to this), fans have taken it upon themselves to create Blizzard in Baator, a full DLC that restores cut content from the original game, and adds a brand new region.

If you haven't heard of Planescape Torment, it's basically Baldur's Gate 3, but better. I know that's a bold statement to make, but it's true in some ways at least. While BG3's characterization and vocal performances take its storytelling to the next level, it can't compete with Planescape: Torment when it comes to writing, quest design, or gameplay.

It feels harsh to compare the two fantasy giants, each of which is deserving of being called one of the best DnD games ever made. That Disco Elysium's creators cite Planescape as one of their biggest inspirations was enough to get me on board, but players used to modern sensibilities may pass it by. Maybe it does need that remake, after all.

Despite its quality, it sadly never got any official expansions. Now, a group of Polish modders are working on the first DLC for Planescape Torment. Named Blizzard in Baator, the mod takes us to the eponymous region which, as can be inferred from the title, is a frozen tundra. The Nameless One will return, along with two new recruitable characters as well as new music, creatures, and cinematics.

According to an interview with Polish website grimuar.pl, the story uses source material from the second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. They also say that they've made the game layout "more like Disco Elysium," which brings everything full circle. You can read the full interview here.

The mod will be playable in English and Polish languages, and its creators plan to release the first act of the DLC this year. However, they don't expect the full thing to be completed until 2031. Crikey. The additional regions are meant to be accessed by players over level 16, but there will be an option to skip to that point if you can't be bothered playing through the original game first. Honestly, you've got six years, so there's really no excuse. Grade 8 piano is also advised, as there is a fully playable piano in the mod. No, I don't know why either.

If you can't wait six years, then why not check out some of the best old games to play in the meantime to get that Torment fix. Our list of the best RPG games will also put you in good stead.
