Hell Is Us shards - how to upgrade weapons

How do you upgrade your weapon in Hell Is Us? If you've picked up a few weapons in the first act of Hell is Us, you might be wondering if you can improve the level as they rank up from using them against enemies. Here's how.

All of the best weapons in Hell Is Us can be upgraded, either by adding relics or specialising in a particular sphere: grief, rage, terror, or ecstasy. New relic slots can be added, too, to improve your chances against some of the tougher bosses. If you've been picking up a huge amount of shards from fighting enemies, then here's how to put them to good use when upgrading your weapons, and how to unlock better weapon upgrades by finding forgebooks.

How to upgrade your weapon in Hell Is Us

To upgrade your weapons, you need to have progressed the story enough to meet Victor Gaz. He's part of the ON, and you'll find him locked inside a side room in the tunnel in Acasa Marshes. This area is to the east, just left of the Abbey and to the right of the mysterious ON facility locked behind a gate. The tunnel is full of enemies that Victor is hiding from, so you need to clear them out first before you can unlock the door and speak to him.

He'll give you the key to Vitalis's house, which is part of the main campaign as you work towards finding your parents. Once you've explored the house, Victor appears in the Blacksmith's building opposite Vitalis's house.

After a bit of back and forth, Victor offers to help upgrade your weapons. This is where you can use shards: materials acquired from fighting and successfully killing enemies. You can upgrade your lymbic weapons by giving them spheres, which are essentially elemental-type attributes. You can also add glyphs to weapons to gain extra abilities by upgrading them.

You can upgrade your weapon to Level 5 and your defensive gear to Level 4, but Victor can also craft consumables for you and add glyphs to upgraded weapons.

Forgebooks

To improve Victor's skills (he is an apprentice after all), you need to find forgebooks scattered around Hadea. Victor can study these books to unlock better consumables and enhanced weapon upgrades. There are four forgebooks in total; here are their locations.

• Forgebook 1: Found in Vitalis's car in Acasa Marches.
• Forgebook 2: Found in Lymbic Forge, go to the grave behind the boss fight there, and once successfully defeated, pull the lever.
• Forgebook 3: Found during the Keystone of Terror quest, go through the foot on the right of the boss fight during this quest. You must close the timeloop to access.
• Forgebook 4: The final forgebook is on the body of a scientist after you complete the Protocols in Auriga, before the Keystone of Rage.
