I never fail to be impressed with the ingenuity of Minecraft players. From incredible mods to buildings and cities that go beyond anything I could ever imagine, the community thrives on creativity. But I never expected to see a fan create an entire minigame within the game itself, much less one that is basically also Minecraft. Yet, that's exactly what I have seen this week. While there's no official distribution of a mod for us to try it for ourselves, just seeing someone playing a 2D sidescrolling version of Minecraft on a sign inside the game is mind blowing nonetheless.

Reddit user 'KevinNguy01' figured out the impressive tech, attaching a sign to a tree and then performing some kind of arcane ritual in order to get a whole game running on it. Minecraft is known for being one of the best survival games, but this shows that you can lay down your sword and take some time for yourself, too.

The clever coder hasn't said whether they will release this to the public at present, but it would surely be up there with the best Minecraft mods if they did. Just take a look at the 2D depiction of mining, fighting, and exploring and you instantly want to give it a go yourself. I suppose you could always load up Terraria for something similar.

Some commenters were dubious as to the validity of the minigame, suggesting that the poster could have made a stop-motion movie depicting a game, rather than a game itself. However, the post is tagged under the subreddit's 'Commands & Datapacks' flair, and the character playing the minigame moves around a fair bit, which would create a lot of unnecessary work for an animator.

All that's left to do is make Minecraft playable in the minigame of Minecraft in Minecraft, then we've gone full Minecraftception. If you're interested in watching the whole minigame play out (and coming to your own conclusion about its credibility), you can see it here.

If you'd love to play this minigame but don't have the foggiest idea of how to make something like that, first of all, join the club. Secondly, check out our list of the best Minecraft seeds to give your next game a bit of excitement. Make sure you're also running it on one of the best gaming monitors. It won't make you better at coding, but it'll mean your texture pack really pops.
