The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 may be specks on the horizon, but plenty of other RPGs are ready to fill the gap. While Fallout London recently dominated the apocalypse side of the conversation, the most striking and memorable fantasy outing of late for me is Dread Delusion, the open-world Morrowind spiritual successor packed to the brim with dark, demonic undertones. It holds a 90% Steam rating since launching in 2024 and now, developer Lovely Hellplace is back with Entropy, which maintains that haunting aesthetic but layers it lovingly across turn-based tactical battles "inspired by classic JRPGs."

In the dying age of Entropy, only pockets of humanity remain. "There was no grand apocalyptic event to speak of," Lovely Hellplace explains, "only the cruel march of time and the inexplicable infertility of the world led us here." The old-school visual style is certainly reminiscent of the studio's last game, Dread Delusion, but swaps out the Morrowind-inspired, real-time action for a turn-based RPG that puts you in charge of a party of up to six characters at once.

Your adventure starts in the town of Draenog, where your grand stage performance is interrupted by demons who arrive at the gates. Initially fighting with a mere prop sword fashioned from wood, it's you and your troupe against the horde as you journey across Entropy's sprawling world map in an attempt to halt the nightmare incursion.

Along the way, you're free to stop off at all manner of towns to explore, meet the locals, and gather up additional resources and supplies. Battles are reminiscent of the best JRPGs of the PS1 era, such as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, although the character portraits along the side indicating upcoming turns immediately conjure up memories of Final Fantasy 10 in my mind.

If members of your party fall, you can hire mercenaries to replace them, giving the progression a slight touch of XCOM or Wartales. In much the same way, however, you'll be well-rewarded for keeping your crew alive; the more they level up, the better their stats and perks become, making them all the more valuable as the fight gets increasingly desperate.

Entropy launches on Steam in 2026. You can wishlist it now to stay up to date with its development. It's certainly exciting to see Lovely Hellplace keep that unique, striking edge while experimenting with new formats, so it's one I'll be watching with interest.
