Black Ops 7 Carry Forward explained

How does Black Ops 7 Carry Forward work? Historically, the Carry Forward mechanic in Call of Duty has allowed players to bring their hard-earned and paid-for skins and weapons to the next game in the series. Naturally, it was assumed this would be the case from BO6 to BO7, and it was - for a few days.

Now we know that there are set to be some changes to the Carry Forward scheme as we know it, as Activision finally listens to player complaints ahead of the Black Ops 7 release date. This doesn't mean that nothing can be carried across to Black Ops 7, but those items you can carry across to the new FPS game have been severely limited, so watch where you spend your COD Points for the next few weeks.

What can you carry forward into BO7?

Following an official announcement on August 26, 2025, only Double XP tokens and Zombies Gobblegums can be carried forward into Black Ops 7. Operators, Operator skins, and weapons cannot.

Meanwhile, everything will be carried forward from Black Ops 6 into Warzone Season One when it arrives, presumably sometime in December 2025.

The blog post confirming this arrived just days after Activision told players that everything could be carried forward into Black Ops 7. The sudden U-turn seems to be in response to player backlash regarding cel-shaded and cartoon skins, as well as other unrealistic Operators and outfits. It may also have something to do with the vastly positive response to Battlefield 6 and its more grounded recreation of warfare.

In the blog, Activision confirms that the decision is because "Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting." Recognizing that "time and progression are important" led to the decision that tokens and Gobblegums would remain unaffected by the changes.

While this might be bad news to those who have spent considerable funds on the likes of Beavis, Butt-head, and American Dad's Roger, most players will no doubt be glad of these changes to the Black Ops 7 Carry Forward mechanic.
