Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the biggest surprise of the year. The turn-based RPG took the world by storm after gradually building interest through trailers that looked almost too good to be true. Heavily influenced by Final Fantasy, most were immediately entranced by its Chiaroscuro visuals, star-studded voice cast, and turn-based combat mechanics. Personally, I just love the Gestrals. What would come next from debut developer Sandfall Interactive, however, remained a mystery. Until now. Sandfall's director, Guillaume Broche, has gone on record to say that Expedition 33 "is not the end" for the series.

"Clair Obscur is the franchise name," he explains in an interview with YouTuber Matt 'MrMattyPlays' Schroeder, which you can watch below. "Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise. Exactly what [the next game] will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise."

Fans of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are, understandably, beside themselves. The hit RPG game has reached such success that its developers are considering sequels - plural. However, we're unlikely to get Expedition 34, given the OG's plot and Broche saying that he tends to forget about previous work when penning a sequel. Even still, it's an exciting time to be a fan of French RPGs and the land of Lumière.

If that wasn't exciting enough, Broche also hints at potential post-launch updates for Expedition 33 itself. When MrMattyPlays asks him about potential add-ons for the game, he laughs and says, "We may be cooking."

Some have even reacted to this quote by wishlisting everything they could possibly want added to the game. From a photo mode, to boss rush, to a Final Fantasy 7 crossover, they have ideas. Personally, I'd want to see more Gestrals. I just think they're neat.

In a world of huge RPGs like BG3, Expedition 33 is the one you need to play: An image of Maelle from Expedition 33 fighting a huge face-like monster

Broche offers a ton of interesting tidbits about Sandfall and the development of Clair Obscur, so it's worth watching the full interview if you're a fan. If you're not, then you should probably get that changed ASAP by giving it a go. As one of the year's best PC games, it's a no-brainer. Just make sure your desktop meets the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 system requirements before you buy.
