Paradox will make "adjustments" to Bloodlines 2's DLC clans after fan backlash

When I learned that the Toreador and Lasombra were to arrive in Bloodlines 2 as playable clans at launch, I audibly squealed. As a hopeless Toreador main on tabletop, being able to play my favorite clan  sparked pure joy. Sure, Ventrue is a nice second-best, and the Tremere's bloody explosions are certainly fun, but there's nothing like luring your enemies into traps and taking down foes at lightning speed. The bad news, however, is that both clans are locked behind a paywall, and will be unavailable to those willing for fork out an extra fee. As you've likely guessed, that hasn't gone down well, and it looks like Paradox may be considering walking back its decision.

Speaking to PCGamesN at Gamescom, a PR representative told me that "it's not uncommon for games to come out with additional content, and given the nature of the game as it stands, where it's been through a lot, this is a way to get additional players in that have been asking for that content, and asking for those clans, on day one."

Since then, however, there's been further grumbling, amplified by a general distrust around the state of the RPG (Bloodlines 2 has been in the works for a long time, after all). Paradox has clearly heard said rumblings, and a new Discord post hints that it may be considering backtracking on the $21.99 Shadows and Silk DLC, perhaps bringing the game's DLC model more in line with what was proposed a couple of years ago.

A new post on the Bloodlines 2 Discord from community developer 'DebbieElla' reads "we are listening to your feedback about the Lasombra and Toreador clan access, and we're making adjustments ahead of launch to reflect this. We will share more information as soon as possible."

They then point to a Twitch stream set to showcase more gameplay, which kicks off today Wednesday August 27 at 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST. It's unclear whether or not we'll get an answer to the DLC question there.

As discussed in a blog post from 2023, Bloodlines 2 was set to release with one DLC clan, and then a larger, more story-driven DLC further down the line. This would have brought the roster up to six. Now, however, the Toreador and Lasombra will be available at launch. Perhaps we'll see more clans appear as a result (I see you, Nosferatu - well, maybe I don't), but either way, Paradox removing the paywall feels like a good idea, if that's indeed what the Discord post hints at.
